How easy it is to get an abortion in Israel?
It's pretty easy. you go in front of a committee (a bit humiliating) and say why you don't want this pregnancy. it's really just a step, a woman can say she's not married, or married but can't afford having a baby, it's just a procedure. I think the statistics are that 99% of abortions are approved. very easy. You can do it up to 6 months into the pregnancy. According to what I see online in some cases the abortion is free, and in some cases its 2000-4000 shekels. More on reddit.com

Israel's abortion law now among world's most liberal

They also have universal health care so the government pays for abortions. The US gives over $3 billion in aid to Israel each year. I always hear calls to defund planned parenthood but never hear calls to stop giving aid to Israel. Why not?

Termination (Abortion) Committees in Israel, how do they work for real?

You have to understand that pretty much every country has tighter restrictions on abortion than the US.

Most of the world would be appalled at the idea of aborting a child 27 weeks into the pregnancy, for instance, which is the law in the US.

This illustrates something that a lot of Americans don't realize about abortion, which is that the US has some of the most lenient abortion limits in the developed world.

1 month ago - In New Jersey, for example, in 2025 there were more than 57,500 abortions and only about 100,000 live births, indicating that roughly a third of all pregnancies were aborted, a rate similar to that of the United Kingdom and other jurisdictions with broad access to abortion on demand. In Israel, by contrast, there were 15,089 reported abortions in 2023, compared with about 179,000 live births — an abortion rate of under 8 percent of pregnancies.

Abortion in Israel: Relatively Easy to Get, Hard to Discuss | Hadassah Magazine
May 11, 2022 - “They tell us, ‘This is not why I studied medicine, to put a woman in such an impossible situation,’ ” says Roni Ben-Cnaan, advocacy coordinator for Physicians for Human Rights-Israel. Those seeking an abortion may fabricate the information they present to the committee to meet the legal criteria, adds Ben-Cnaan. She has heard from married women who falsely claim that a pregnancy was conceived out of wedlock. “A woman does not want to lie,” says Ben-Cnaan, “but she will do so if there’s no other option.” Government statistics show that pregnancy out of wedlock or from rape or incest were the most cited reasons in 2020 given to the committee, representing 49 percent of termination requests.

“However, two years after the enactment of the original bill, the fifth [reason] for abortion – known as ‘the socioeconomic clause’ – was repealed by the legislature and abortion approvals were ultimately restricted to only four permissible grounds,” noted a study of the historic legality of abortion in Israel published by the University of Haifa this year. Today, official government data show that the main reason women cite for termination is ‘pregnancy out of wedlock,’” the study found, noting that this is the primary reason that younger, single Israeli women give, as they use abortion as a form of birth control.

r/Israel on Reddit: How easy it is to get an abortion in Israel?
July 12, 2023 -

My gf is an Israeli citizen but she resides in the US most of the year and she has never actually lived in Israel. She’s currently in Israel for a few weeks to get her US visa done and two days ago we had a really bad pregnancy scare. Fortunately, that was a false alarm this time (she read her pregnancy test wrong as all instructions were in Hebrew) but we realized that neither me nor her know anything about how the abortion process works in Israel and and the fact that neither of us speaks Hebrew makes everything even more complicated (both of us are Jewish though if it is of any relevance).

How easy is it to get an abortion in Israel? How long does it take to get one? Are there any abortion clinics in Israel (something like Planned Parenthood in the US)? Would appreciate any input - thanks!

Requests for abortions in Israel at record high, report says
January 17, 2023 - Abortion requests in Israel have been on the rise since the late 1980s and jumped sharply in 2020, perhaps due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns. The percentage of requests approved also increased from some 90% in the 1980s to more than 99% in recent years. In 2021, the approval rate stood at almost 99.5%. According to the Health Ministry, 95.4% of women whose applications were approved have gone through with the process.
