1876 Victorian architecture, Burnside Michigan. Town records show Scottish immigrant John G. Bruce built the home in 1876. The mansion has 3 floors and a cellar that holds remains of a coal room and a large cement cistern for water collection. In 1881 a fire destroyed most of the town, while Bruce’s home was spared.
John Bruce sold the hole to Cynthia smith who died in the mansion in 1921. During the time Cynthia owned the home, she used it to hold funerals, as back in the day it was very common to have funerals in your own home. The house was then sold to John walker, who had moved in with his wife in 1923, but died in the mansion in 1926 due to unknown reasons. According to town legend, walker had hung himself after his wife left him a year into living in the mansion.
The ghost of a cat is also seen on the first floor of the home, and the sound of a dog growling can be heard in the empty basement when attempting to go down there.
