r/Catholicism on Reddit: Christian Zionism explained?
May 13, 2020 -

Can someone please explain how any Christian could beleive in Christian Zionism?

I am referring to the belief that God favors Israel no matter what and it is Gods will that every country favor Israel or suffer the consequences.

God himself didn’t favor Israel no matter the consequences ( See book of Lamentations) and often had them kicked out, captured or punished as a result of sin/ impiety.

That’s a far cry from John Hagee and his ilk.

Also, would those evangelicals count Jerry Seinfeld, Joan Rivers, Mel Brooks, Howard Stern, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Bernie Sanders etc as being Gods chosen people in spite of the impiety and sinfulness of them generally?

The Impact of Christian Zionism on American Policy
The most compelling points of Christian Zionism are that Israel is of prime importance, that the Jews will eventually convert to Christianity, and that the future of the world permits no middle positions allowing compromise. There can be no half-way measures and those who advocate compromise are siding with the enemy. England's legal scholar Blackstone went so far as to present to U.S. President Harrison a petition calling for an international conference to promote the return of the Jews to Israel. He worked closely with Chief Justice Brandeis to achieve Zionist goals.

Understanding and Challenging Christian Zionism - On Earth Peace
November 19, 2024 - Concerning Christ, Christian Zionism is not Christlike and does not respect the notion of Christ’s kingdom as transcendent of nation-state borders. The obsession with the nation-state and, of course, the use of unspeakable violence against Palestinian and Lebanese people, goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ.

March 26, 2026 - By the time of the 18th century, the Christian Zionist Movement, known then as the Restoration Movement, included many theologians, writers, and politicians. Noteworthy was Thomas Newton, the Bishop of Bristol. He believed Jews would be restored to their native city and country and at the same time he condemned anti-Jewish prejudice.

September 9, 2021 - This is how our Spanish-speaking, Central American evangelical family became Christian Zionists. It happened gradually, without realizing it and without us naming it as such. In fact, my parents did not know the meaning of Christian Zionism as a term until decades after their experiences in La Iglesia Evangélica Menonita.

March 9, 2025 - Evangelicals often speak of a Judeo-Christian heritage in the West, but this term emerged with broad changes in the public acceptability of anti-Semitism during and after the Shoah. March 3, 2025 - The statement underlying Zionism and Christian Zionism is “a land without people for a people without land” which totally ignores the Indigenous people who were living there. Settler colonialism is a form of colonialism where the focus is on removing or eliminating (rather than profiting from) the native population. From the beginning, Zionists have not hesitated to make and share plans for getting the Palestinians and Arabs off their land in order to claim it for the Jewish people.

Biblical Christian Zionism 101 - ICEJ
Jews of all persuasions left and right, religious and secular, joined to form the Zionist movement and worked together toward these goals. Disagreements led to rifts, but ultimately, the common goal of a Jewish state in its ancient homeland was attained. The term “Zionism” was coined in 1890 by Nathan Birnbaum. If Zionism is the belief in the Jewish people’s right to return to their homeland, then a Christian Zionist should simply be defined as a Christian who supports the Jewish people’s right to return to their homeland.
