If your fireplace installer doesn't want to do the work or coordinate having the work done, find someone else and start from #1. The chimney on my cabin built in the 1970s doesn’t meet the 3-2-10 rule. I’m putting a new metal roof on it and while I’m up there just wondering if I should modify the chimney. It is a wood framed chimney for two wood burning fireplaces. Obviously I need to replace the plywood and will add some faux stone cladding to it anyway should I go ahead and extend this? Would any stainless pipe of the same diameter suffice with a coupler?

Looks like ventilated chimney for fireplace. I don’t think this is Class A Chimney for a wood stove or Insert. You would have to find a tag somewhere on a chimney part. Inserts and stoves require factory built chimneys UL Listed to UL 103 HT. Fireplaces can have lower temperature rated chimney systems.
