  2. Have a properly sized liner installed to the eater heater.

  3. If your fireplace installer doesn't want to do the work or coordinate having the work done, find someone else and start from #1.

Installing a direct vent fireplace does not negate 3-2-10 unless you're venting out the side of the chimney and there's nothing else using the chimney for ventilation.
