Earl Browder, in fact, attempted to tailor his organization to American conditions by formally abandoning the designation of “party” for the Communist Political Association, which indicated the organization would now function as a political pressure group.

Two Communists were elected in the 1940s to the New York City Council, one on the Communist Party ticket and one on the American Labor Party ticket. Communists also allied with Minnesota's Farmer-Labor Party and supported the election of progressive Democratic Party candidates.

The future belongs to the working class

Hall was hostile to Eurocommunism as it developed in the 1980s and then to the reforms initiated in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Gorbachev. Hall resisted the attempts to introduce democratic reforms. In 1989 Hall outmaneuvered his opponents, leading to large numbers leaving the party. Hall did not resign as party chairman until just before his death on 13th October, 2000.
