Gavin Newsom - Wikipedia
2 days ago - Newsom was elected mayor of San Francisco in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He was elected lieutenant governor of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. As lieutenant governor, Newsom hosted The Gavin Newsom Show from 2012 to 2013 and in 2013 wrote the book Citizenville, which focuses on using digital tools for democratic change. Newsom was elected governor in 2018 and reelected in 2022. He faced criticism for his personal behavior and leadership style during the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to an unsuccessful recall effort in 2021. As governor, Newsom has focused on infrastructure and housing, climate, gun control and LGBTQ rights. In 2025, he began hosting the podcast This Is Gavin Newsom, which has featured guests from across the political spectrum. He oversaw the passage of California Proposition 50, a gerrymandering proposal developed in response to 2025 Texas ...

Billionaire Google founder's savage put-down to Gavin Newsom as he quits California | Daily Mail Online
3 weeks ago - California Governor Gavin Newsom was reportedly left feeling under the weather - and not just politically - after a shock confrontation with a tech titan who decided he had had enough of the Golden State. At an exclusive treehouse Christmas party north of San Francisco, Google co-founder Sergey Brin is said to have bluntly told the Democrat he was packing up and leaving California, according to a bombshell Bloomberg report. The billionaire, whose fortune is estimated at a staggering $260 billion, allegedly pointed to a controversial proposal to slap a 5 percent tax on the ultra-wealthy - a move that could cost him dearly. Sources claim Newsom, already 'cold and hungry' at the glitzy gathering hosted by crypto mogul Chris Larsen, was caught off guard as Brin and his girlfriend delivered the news. But the awkward exchange did not end there. The governor reportedly spent months complaining about a 'lingering cold' he believed he picked up from the couple during the frosty encounter.

Gavin Newsom faces growing pressure to intervene in a scrambled California governor’s race | CNN Politics
April 15, 2026 - The scrambled race for California governor left in the wake of Eric Swalwell’s sexual misconduct allegations isn’t officially Gov. Gavin Newsom’s mess. But it’s one that many top Democrats want him to consider trying to clean up. Since CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle broke their stories about Swalwell on Friday night, Newsom has been in a marathon of calls and meetings about the governor’s race, according to a dozen leading Democrats, several of whom have spoken with him. Four people familiar with Newsom’s thinking tell CNN he’s still trying to make sense of where the race actually stands now, eager for new polling data and trying to sort out whether the Swalwell collapse intensifies the chances of California Democrats’ red-alert scenario: Two Republicans advancing in the nonpartisan June 2 primary and locking Democrats out of the governorship entirely.

Opinion | Why Does Gavin Newsom Sound Like a Right-Wing Troll? - The New York Times
April 3, 2026 - But nowhere is this trend clearer than in the messaging of Gavin Newsom, the California governor and presidential hopeful. More than any other Democrat, he has embraced an unapologetic, some might say toxic, form of masculinity. Suddenly aggressive, thick-skinned and partial to the macho lingo of the online right, he seems to have concluded that progressive models of manliness — the deferential white male ally, the “girl dad” concerned about reproductive rights — are passé. His instincts may unsettle progressives, but Mr. Newsom has accurately identified a Democratic weakness. His attempts to address the problem, though often misguided, nonetheless point his party in the direction it must travel to beat back the right. Thank you for your patience while we verify access. Newsom tries to balance California’s books — and head off 2028 liabilities - POLITICO
1 week ago - That’s a matter both of good governance and the reality, not lost on Newsom or his advisers, that a financially teetering California would dog Newsom on the national stage. “It would be very easy for the next governor to say, at least in the near term: ‘It’s Gavin’s problem and I have to clean it up,’” said a Capitol executive granted anonymity to candidly describe dynamics. “The bigger gap the next guy’s got to fill, the bigger the New York Post headlines will be about how Gavin ruined the state.” · Newsom was buoyed by a higher-than-expected surge in income taxes, much of it from capital gains, and a series of · initial public offerings could bring another windfall. But his blueprint also bends on his longstanding aversion to raising or enacting taxes. While he plans to cut the cost of the state’s health insurance system, in particular by asking undocumented immigrants to pay more for subsidized coverage, he’s also proposing to bring in more revenue by capping corporate tax credits,

How Gavin Newsom Subsidized the Migrant Invasion
1 month ago - Assemblymember Mia Bonta (Photo by Jessica Christian/San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images) The final part of Newsom’s illegal immigration machine is the activist element, which is designed to resist federal authorities who would challenge California’s status as a “sanctuary state.” · Last summer, the conflict between President Trump and Governor Newsom came to a head. Protesters launched anti-ICE demonstrations around the country, most notably in Los Angeles, where the riots cost the city $32 million and led to hundreds of arrests. Throughout L.A., agitators burned cars, looted stores, shut down the freeway, and threw rocks, bottles, and fireworks at law enforcement officers—all, effectively, to stop Trump from deporting illegal aliens from the United States. California Governor Gavin Newsom gave VIP treatment to former NFL star who complained after homeless encampment sprung up outside his Oakland home | Daily Mail Online
2 days ago - Gavin Newsom reportedly stepped in to ask Oakland city officials to remove a homeless encampment that had sprouted outside of former NFL player Marshawn Lynch's family's home · Newsom's office was said to have called former Oakland mayor Sheng Thao's chief of staff with gripes about 'a number of RVs that [were] parked out in front' of the property · Lynch, 40, previously revealed that Newsom had vouched for his character after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in 2012 · Hanson, Thao's former chief of staff, also told the Oakland lawmakers that 'several campers' were doing 'questionable things' after taking over the area. Newsom is old friends with Lynch and the two began co-hosting a weekly podcast with their friend and agent Doug Hendrickson called Politickin in July 2024. Lynch is an Oakland native who graduated from high school in the Bay Area city and also later attended Cal Berkeley, about 10 minutes away, for college.
