I’ve seen some seriously disturbing gore, horror films, real crime stuff — nothing ever phased me. But for some reason, reading about the Smurl family haunting gave me legit chills. I don’t know why, but the idea of a family being tormented so relentlessly even to the point of alleged sexual assault by a demon…seriously messed with me.
Does anyone know what that thing was supposed to be? Like… who or what haunted them so badly? Demon? Poltergeist? Just curious if others felt the same freaky vibe from that case.

Try to keep some skepticism when you read accounts of the hauntings the Warrens were involved in. I’m a believer in the paranormal myself but I’m not 100% certain that the Warrens (especially Ed) were the most honest of people. Lorraine seemed to be a true believer in the paranormal and her abilities but Ed seemed to be more focused on the money he could make off of the stories. All I’m trying to say is don’t believe every detail of every story

I worked with one of the daughters years ago. She was an adult. She didn't seem to me like the type that wanted the attention. When she would speak of the events in the house, there was a genuine fear about it. I know the warrens probably hyped it up more and maybe exaggerated some. What really bothered me with her story was the amount of people that took advantage of them. They were so desperate to escape the horror of the house that any help they could get, they paid for. They had shamans and all other religious institutions offer help for a price.

May 9, 2025 - While the Warrens never reached a definitive conclusion with their investigation (which is why this is still known as the once case they never really solved), the Smurls claimed that another round of blessings and prayers eventually returned their lives to normal. However, as is usually the case with this kind of paranormal phenomena, skeptics expressed doubt that the house on Cape Street was actually haunted.
