Daywatch: The haunted history of the Lincoln Park Zoo - AOL
October 30, 2024 - Another time, a woman approached an employee at the zoo’s visitor center, her soaking-wet son in tow. Apparently, she saw a hand come out of the lagoon and pull the boy in. “What she thought member services could do about this I have no idea,” joked Adam Selzer. These ghost stories are courtesy of Selzer, an author and historian who runs “Haunted History” tours at the zoo in October — past dark, of course.

038 The Old Chicago City Cemetery and Haunted Lincoln Park – Ghostly Podcast
November 16, 2023 - Photo of Skeleton found when breaking ground for Lincoln Park Zoo · Restless spirits haunt the park. Or that’s what many visitors and workers at the Lincoln Park Zoo have claimed over the years.
Discussions

Does anyone know anything about zoos being haunted? I work at a notoriously haunted zoo as it is 150 years old and was built over a graveyard. However, I was wondering if animals ever haunt zoos? I’ve only heard of a few animal apparitions being seen here.

Happy Halloween! What's your creepiest Chicago story?
Honestly the only time I've experienced weird unexplained stuff is at my grandma's house, which is a non-descript bungalow in Portage Park. I've heard plenty of weird noises and phantom toilet flushes, and more than a few family members have claimed to see things. When I was a kid I asked my grandma if her house was haunted and she (being a very catholic woman) just responded "don't worry dear, those are just angels." Which didn't exactly make me feel better lol. More on reddit.com

TIL Lincoln Park used to be the official city cemetery before it was a park, and the ground there is still filled with old, unmarked graves.
Former Lincoln Park Zoo director Lester Fisher told Bannos that workers found a skeleton and casket when they dug the foundation for the zoo's barn in 1962. After getting no guidance from bureaucrats on what to do, they reburied the casket and poured the foundation on top of it https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/a-conservatory-a-zoo-and-12000-corpses/Content?oid=1109775 More on reddit.com

Uncover a Haunted History on this Spooky Ghost Tour in Chicago | Less or Morgan
December 12, 2024 - A neighborhood that hides a dark secret. It was once Chicago’s first city cemetery, established in 1842. Beneath the bustling paths and even the famous Lincoln Park Zoo lies the unmarked resting place of thousands. Something I never knew when I visited the Lincoln Park Zoo in the past.

The Haunted Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago - Windy City Ghosts
April 11, 2025 - Under the direction of Cy DeVry from 1888 to 1919, the zoo eventually expanded its collection and infrastructure, acquiring its first elephants and monkeys and constructing new habitats for lions, gorillas, and great apes. The 1940s marked a period of ongoing innovation, further solidified by establishing the Lincoln Park Zoological Society in 1959. Chicago is renowned as one of the most haunted cities in America, with a history marred by tragedy and death.
