Can someone explain the XRP + ISO 20022 hype? I’ve read a ton, still don’t see the big deal
ISO20022 is the settlement messaging format that all banks must use. So if the format is Sender, recipient, subject, amount, memo, etc., all the banks must follow that structure along with any specific formatting that comes with it. XRP as a bridge currency isn’t directly ISO20022 compliant. No digital asset is directly compliant. Ripplenet is ISO20022 compliant so transactions on the XRPL are compliant. I am guessing other blockchain platforms are compliant, but I’m not sure if it’s as well supported as Ripplenet supports the XRPL. IMO, the most important thing about this ISO20022 policy is that it is a pre-requisite for real time/T-0 transactions. Yes, the XRPL and other chains can support real-time transactions today, but banks need the data supporting the transaction to be communicated in real-time as well for real-time payments to be useful. That doesn’t happen without 1 unified structure and format for data. Long story short, this is going to be BIG for blockchains focused on settlement (XRPL, Hashgraph, etc.) since they facilitate real-time (within seconds) transactions. More on reddit.com

Seems to me that, if you want Bitcoin to be P2P digital cash the last thing you need is a 3rd party involved right?
More on reddit.comWhy is ISO 20022 important?
Traditionally, large global financial institutions have had tendencies to develop, approve and implement standards without seeking input from other organizations. This has resulted in inconsistency, and a lack of customization, leaving overwhelmed IT departments with the task of handling on-boarding, testing and managing ongoing partner relationships.
The ISO 20022 financial messaging standard was designed to remedy this, as a flexible framework providing an internationally agreed business message syntax, where user organizations and developers will use the same message structure, form and me

True interoperability remains a work in progress, and many banks are only just beginning to assess the broader impacts on their infrastructure, workflows, and customer propositions. The upcoming milestone marks a major shift: key MT messages — including MT103 and MT202 among others — will be retired, making ISO 20022 mandatory for all payment instruction messages.
