March 14, 2014Why is thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) is solid, but carvacrol (5-isopropyl-2-methylphenol) is liquid? How the positition of OH can make such difference?
This is... really hard to answer generally. But in this instance, a reasonable rationalization could be that steric bulk of the nearby isopropyl group prevents the formation of a more extensive hydrogen bonding network, which helps carvacrol be a solid at the same temperature.

Seems useless and that you are only feeding your OCD by trying all these most likely garbage and ineffective supplements. You could try Clomipramine or a generic SSRI + Nortriptyline or Amitriptyline combo whichever is the cheapest, that should be affordable even if you are homeless and getting by using food coupons, eating out of dumpsters and trash bins and doing sexual favours for money. Later on when you have more money due to getting better OCD/depression/anxiety wise and being more productive from the meds you can try getting evaluated and eventually medicated for ADHD if you have it(pacing around the house like you do sounds very ADHD:ey and it is extremely comorbid with autism spectrum disorders not to mention depression and OCD).
