October 15, 2025 - All the sarcasm and fast talk you ... the schtick is completely familiar, the jokes still manage to delight. All in all, a very worthy sequel. ... Carried forward "The Brothers McMullen" thirty years later....

January 8, 2026 - There’s more drama in The Family McMullen than your average Tyler Perry screed. Not that it’s inherently a bad thing. Burns’ sequel moves at a breezy pace, never dull, always marginally entertaining, and buoyed by a cast that owns their characters very well. Burns’ Barry is such a cantankerous ass that it made me realize if I wanted to hear sarcastic clapbacks to everything I said, I would simply call my own father. McGlone’s Patrick turns out to be the most interesting man on screen.

Some positives: The rich, warm cinematography is wonderful on the big screen. Michael McGlone's character rings authentic and true after 30 years. Each time he's on the screen, you know you're in good hands.

October 15, 2025 - Tagline:A new generation. A new love. And the same McMullens.

October 16, 2025 - The Family McMullen is intelligent in terms of its style and dialogue. Burns knows how parents pass the torch to their kids and root in their corner all the way through the hard times.

February 10, 2026 - The McMullens are imperfect but relatable adults navigating marriage, friendship, and midlife change. Several couples demonstrate commitment and resilience, even as they struggle with communication or dissatisfaction. Women are confident, outspoken, and emotionally honest, while men are encouraged ...

December 27, 2025 - It felt as if Burns had nothing insightful to add to Patrick’s storylines, but McGlone is a champ though the material is beneath him. Burns correctly realized that his resolution to Molly’s main conflict in “The Brothers McMullen” was not satisfying, but he over course corrected and turned Molly’s entire personality into repeatedly saying that her husband cheated on her, and she got revenge.

December 10, 2025 - Burns plays Barry, the middle McMullen brother, a twice-divorced father of two adult kids, “perfect” Patty (Halston Sage) and “terrible” Tommy (Pico Alexander). Michael McGlone is back as Patrick, the youngest McMullen boy, on the brink of his own divorce (from the unseen Leslie, with whom he ran off at the end of the original film).

November 12, 2025 - “The Family McMullen” gets a little overstuffed with these types contrivances. However, what saves the movie and makes it watchable is how most of the principal cast members are able to skillfully handle the movie’s verbose and fast-paced dialogue. Burns, Britton, McGlone, Ross, Alexander, Canfield and James all have great comedic timing in delivering their lines and in their body language.

November 3, 2025 - Michael McGlone is magnetic — his sharp humor now shaded by years of wisdom. Tracee Ellis Ross adds warmth and modern charm, while Halston Sage, Juliana Canfield, and Pico Alexander give the next generation its youthful fire.

October 15, 2025 - It's hard to say which was worse, the stale plot of The Family McMullen or painfully weak acting from the younger cast. Either way, great hair isn't much to watch for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, the film's focus is on the kids.

December 6, 2025 - It’s still a story about siblings, centered on Barry (played by Burns), twice divorced and now welcoming his two adult kids back home to Brooklyn for Thanksgiving. Joining them are his brother Pat (Michael McGlone) and sister-in-law Molly (Connie Britton, the one cast member who became a genuine star), now widowed after the death of Jack, the third McMullen brother.

30 years after the events of The Brothers McMullen, romantic entanglements plague a now fiftysomething Barry McMullen and his twentysomething kids, as well as his brother Patrick and widowed sister-in-law Molly, who are also facing similar unexpected hurdles. ... Connie Britton Edward Burns Halston Sage Michael McGlone Tracee Ellis Ross Shari Albert Juliana Canfield Pico Alexander Brian d'Arcy James Stephen Badalamenti Bryan Fitzgerald Christina Catechis John El-Jor Sam Vartholomeos Christina Mavronas Isabella Kaimakliotis Douglas Burkhardt Bryan Ambery Sadie Fraser Angela Morrison Peter Santiago

January 9, 2026 - Yes, this new look at the McMullen family treds on a friendly sitcom like approach (the original had more grit and an angst), but it's still a warm and charming film. Burns returns as Barry-the sly center of the McMullen Brothers. He's our Woody Allen type lead here. Funny and gives a sly prospective on this developments of the plot and characters. Michael McGlone is back as Barry's cautious and religious brother Patrick.

December 11, 2025 - I'm just not sure anyone beyond Burns and the returning actors (Britton, McGlone, and Shari Albert as an ex-girlfriend of Patrick's) have enough of an emotional connection to THE BROTHERS MCMULLEN for this to really matter (new characters played by Tracee Ellis Ross and Brian d'Arcy James join the ensemble this time around), but if he was smart, Burns would create a spinoff for the fleetingly-seen and hilariously mean older sisters of the nice-guy Greek-American plumber (Sam Vartholomeos) Patty ends up dating.

October 15, 2025 - As with the original,?The Family McMullen?is an ensemble comedy written and directed by Edward Burns?which tracks the romantic entanglements of a now 50-something Barry McMullen (Burns) and his?20-something kids, as well as his brother Patrick (Michael McGlone) and widowed sister-in-law ...

There are reviews I read from people on WordPress, who I respect, who craft a well written review, but it is just not a film I am interested in.

December 18, 2025 - P.S. I asked my friend C to weigh in on The Family McMullen, since she shares Burns’ hometown. January 27, 2026 - Michael McGlone (Patrick McMullen) and writer/director/actor Edward Burns (Barry ‘Finbar’ McMullen) reprise their roles from the first film, as does Connie Britton (Molly McMullen). But 30 years after the original, Finbar now has adult children Patty McMullen (Halston Sage) and her brother Tommy McMullen (Pico Alexander).
