I know there are many accounts with 5 to 25 subs from commenting only, or other activities. However, I think when you compare to the 2b active users on YouTube, seeing only 63m with 5 subs, means that even then, these are users who are much more active, have chosen to make a channel, and interact on the platform far more than the average user, and even if they aren't actively creating now, they have the highest chance to. some may say the threshold should be 100, and in that case, you can pretty much just double the % number and go off that if you wish. Well, I can't speak for everyone, but as a viewer I separate my content with channels. I have a travel subs channel, a politics/news subs channel, an art subs channel, and a motovlog subs channel. The latter is the only one I intend to make content on, the rest are just so my algorithm keeps its eye on the ball as far as what I want to see, and honestly it's great - each one has very specific and relevant recommendations all the time. Idk if that's what they were intended for, but YT doesn't want people having 50 channels with content, cos they're bound to be shitty, reuploaded Shorts content with AI voices. More on reddit.com

Ran a gaming channel for about 10 years as a hobby, probably made about $2,000 bucks off it total (through donations and minor ad placements...I used to have a really tight-knit community of about 10 people and half of them would complain if I "made them watch ads"). Last year I ditched the old channel, started a new one doing scripted reviews of TV shows and now I make between $1,400 and $2,600 a month, depending how much I upload. I'm still in grad school, so I can't upload as much as I like, so I'm looking forward to when I can focus on Youtube full time. More on reddit.com
