Doesn't the infinite coastline paradox imply that everything has an infinite length?
No. If you measure a straight line segment, the answer is a finite length no matter how small a measuring device you use. The idea a coastline has infinite length rests on the assumption the coastline is a fractal, which isn't really true. More on reddit.com

ELI5: Can someone explain the coastal paradox and infinite shoreline theory?
The reason it's a "thing" is because maps got more and more precise and they needed an explanation for why they kept measuring things longer and longer. But you're right that it's an arbitrary distinction that would apply to anything. Of course there can always be a more exact measurement that would involve smaller and smaller incremental differences. Beyond the immediate need for an explanation from mapmakers and mathematicians, a coastline is also just a good example to use because people can easily conceptualize a coastline as a fractal shape. When is a great time to come—and why?
Come in spring or fall to enjoy freshly harvested local delicacies and a good chance of spotting wildlife, including bears and whales. In winter, watch dramatic storms crash against rugged shorelines from the comfort of a waterfront cabin. Summer is busier, yet its long days invite exploration of vibrant small towns and time on the water by kayak, paddleboard, or sail. Year-round, festivals, gatherings, and everyday moments offer ways to experience coastal life.

The infinite coastline paradox - by Joel David Hamkins
March 5, 2025 - On the coarse end of the scale, we use a comparatively crude unit measurement scale of 150 km, finding the estimated coastline length to be 2610 km. In the middle of the animation, with a considerably finer measurement unit of 4.4 km, we resolve many more of the bays and river inlets, more than doubling the measured coastline length to 6220 km.

The greater the detail, the greater the length we will find. So because coastal features have a fractal dimension the length of the Pacific coast can credibly be described as approaching infinity and essentially unmeasurable in the ordinary sense of that word.

British Columbia Road Trips: BC’s Infinite Coast and Rainforest to Rockies Routes
April 23, 2026 - Tucked along British Columbia’s central coast, the Great Bear Rainforest feels more like a hidden world than a travel destination. It stretches for more than 6.4 million hectares – larger than Ireland – yet few travellers ever reach its glacial fjords and towering forests. Those who do are rewarded with one of the most awe-inspiring wilderness regions in North America. This is the heart of the Infinite Coast experience: raw, remote and rich with life.

December 3, 2022 -

From my understanding, the paradox says that with an infinitely small measuring device, you can measure an infinite coastline. Ok, so then with an infinitely small measuring device, anything will have an infinite length. Why then does the paradox speak specifically about coastlines? Also the paradox seems nonsensical. Like duh.

Edit: After reading the comments, what I've gathered is that the gist of the "paradox" is that the more you refine your measurement, the more accurate your answer will be. Which to me just sounds like common sense, and I'm not sure why a special "paradox" involving coastlines had to be invented when I would think this truth is fairly self-apparent.

What's the 'coastline paradox'? | Live Science
November 11, 2024 - This can hold true for coastlines. You could technically measure a coastline down to the grain of sand or atomic level or smaller, which would mean a coastline's length could be close to infinity, Sammler said.
