June 27: Our 767 took off from North Carolina with nearly 100,000 pounds of relief headed for Venezuela. Back-to-back earthquakes rocked Venezuela within a minute of each other on June 24. Both tremors measured over 7.0 in magnitude; the second quake reached 7.5, making it the strongest to hit the country in over a century. Aftershocks continue, complicating search-and-rescue and relief efforts. More than 1,400 people are confirmed dead and thousands more are injured or missing. Hospitals in the hardest hit areas were strained before the quake, and now many are damaged and overwhelmed with people in desperate need of care.

She said rescue crews were coming from several countries as she thanked world leaders, including Trump. Emergency crews have been searching through rubble by hand in some areas, with heavy equipment still arriving in the hardest-hit zones. Officials warned it could take days to assess the full scale of casualties and damage, particularly in areas still difficult to access. Desperation mounts in Venezuela as the earthquake death toll rises to 1,430 | PBS News
1 day ago - Venezuela's government said families reported at least 68,900 people missing, three days after the one-two punch of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes devastated the South American nation. WATCH: Crews race to find survivors in mountains of rubble after Venezuela earthquakes · Venezuelans looking for loved ones and neighbors used shovels, heavy equipment, ropes and bare hands atop mounds of toppled concrete throughout La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit states. They were joined by a growing number of international rescue teams who began to climb through the rubble, offering a small glint of hope to anguished families. Tensions peaked over what many Venezuelans viewed as an inadequate response by the government, whose soldiers, firefighters, police and military cadets were evidently underprepared to respond to the scope of the tragedy. Many felt every minute ticking away as they ran out of time to rescue people alive.
