Thunderbolt software
I had a similar issue with my freshly bought ASUS eGPU on my Intel NUC7i5BNK. Ripping out the software didn't remove the driver, but you could remove it manually under System | Thunderbolt (TM) Controller then follow the instructions. Still after that the only way I could get it working was to use the Windows 10 Store app called "Thunderbolt Control Centre" by Intel Corp. Once launched I approved the device and then she was sweet. Thunderbolt NVM Firmware not updating
Did you figure this out? Where did you see that it has to be 41 or later for an eGPU? I setup a NUC12WKSi5 today and its working with both Sonnet 750 and Mantiz MZ-03 eGPUs in Linux. I think my TB4 firmware is v38, according to: $ cat /sys/bus/thunderbolt/devices/0-0/0-1/nvm_version 38.0 More on reddit.com

I upgraded to a new nuc8I7HVK and for the life of me I can’t find a link to the thunderbolt software so I can connect my EGPU.
I found the updater but I need the original software

I have it as a 6,378 KB .zip file. I got my direct from Intel 12/30/2018 but it's available on 3rd party websites. The install instructions for the above thunderbolt drivers say to uninstall the current intel thunderbolt software first. https://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=352&func=fileinfo&id=3245&lang=en There's also a thunderbolt 3 firmware updater at the intel nuc site. hth
