Electric vehicle battery - Wikipedia
2 weeks ago - They are typically lithium-ion batteries that are designed for high power-to-weight ratio and energy density. Compared to liquid fuels, most current battery technologies have much lower specific energy. This increases the weight of vehicles or reduces their range.

Does anyone have a list of what 2024 EVs use LFP batteries?
Worth noting: the RWD Model 3, with 60kWh LFP battery pack, is the #1 most efficient production EV on the road currently. Great value and very happy with the performance. More on reddit.com

Charging at 3 kWh vs 7 kWh for LFP batteries. Significant difference in battery deterioration?
No, those are both really slow as far as the car is concerned. Also it's kW, not kWh. More on reddit.com

How much does todays LFP batteries weigh per kWh?
Typical LFP battery pack energy density 130-150Wh/kg. NMC is 160-190Wh/kg. So weight difference really depends on specific design, C-rating (higer C-rating usually leads to lower energy density) etc, but 50-100kg weight difference is a good ball-pack figure. More on reddit.com

Which battery is better in cold? LFP or NMC
You are looking at the wrong parameter. They both release the energy contained in the battery just fine. They both fast charge fine these days too. Why? It's a Tesla! They're heated to optimal operating/charging temperature if you let it do its job.... The real parameter at stake is range. Winter means consumption skyrockets. heating is needed for the battery heating is needed for the interior, auxiliary power +100% air is denser, air drag resistance +15-20%, 10-15% extra consumption at highway speeds DCFC requires a warm battery. More energy is needed for this in colder temperatures reserve 5% more on the bottom side. weather is worse apart from temperature: more wind = more air drag resistance more precipitation = more rolling resistance & air drag resistance Add all of these up and you're looking at a range loss of 30% to 50% vs summertime for long highway drives with preheating (preheat interior + battery from a wall outlet). For short drives it is even worse. Double the consumption is normal. Consumption = initial energy use from heating + energy used per mile driven. That initial ~2-5kWh spent on heating the battery and interior is added to each drive. LFP is a cheaper lower energy density solution for lower range vehicles. LFP has a lower EPA/WLTP range to start with. That's where calculations start for real world summer highway range (70mph): EPA -10% for EPA -> real world highway consumption EPA -30% for daily driving from 80% state of charge to 10% SoC -10% degradation after 2 years (levels off) So your real world highway range is way lower than EPA. Now subtract 30%-50% for tough winter conditions..... What range remains? If you have serious winters where you regularly drive long distances on the highway: GET THE BIGGEST CAPACITY BATTERY YOU CAN GET. That's NMC. More on reddit.com

They are safer and last longer plus fewer socially problematic mineral sources, so I would prefer this if I can get the right mix. (USA)

I know the Fisker ocean base has LFP but also they aren’t offering the solar roof on anything but the $70k NMC model which makes me mad enough to potentially not consider their brand.

Which Tesla’s use LFP in USA? Do any Kia models use LFP?

Why We're Excited about LFP Batteries for Electric Cars
May 31, 2024 - For EV use, the most popular batteries are NMC (lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide) and NCA (lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxides), which combine metals with nickel and cobalt to make them last longer and hold the most energy. However, LFP batteries, also known as lithium iron phosphate, or LiFePO4 (Li = lithium, Fe = iron, PO4 = phosphate) are the new kid on the block.
