The “Investigative Judgment”—A Bible-Based Doctrine? — Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY
8:14 from this cry [“How long?” verse 13] is to be exegetically at sea without an anchor.”b · Why do Adventists detach verse 14 from the context? To avoid an awkward conclusion. The context ascribes the defilement of the sanctuary, mentioned in verse 14, to the activities of the little horn. However, the “investigative judgment” doctrine attributes the defilement of the sanctuary to the activities of Christ.

Investigative judgment - Wikipedia
May 4, 2025 - The Investigative Judgment doctrine states that in 1844 Christ moved from the Holy Place to the Most Holy Place in Heaven as described in Daniel 8:13–14, and that this began the judgment described in Daniel 7:9–10. The main Biblical texts quoted by Seventh-day Adventists in support of the doctrine of the pre-Advent Judgment being applicable to the professed people of God in all ages, are Daniel 7:9–10; 1 Peter 4:17; and Revelation 14:6, 7; 20:12:

Is the Investigative Judgement Scriptural?
Hiram Edson and certain other members of the Adventist movement were guided into the belief that the event predicted by Daniel 8:14 was not the return of Christ, but rather Christ's entrance into the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary. Adventists came to believe that the cleansing of the... More on christianforums.com

So what is the investigative judgment all about? FYI I'm no adventist.
The investigative judgement is the part where God decides who is saved and who is not saved. After all, at some point, the decision has to be made, and it makes no sense to judge sinners after they've already received their sentence of death. The Seventh-day Adventist church believes that the investigative judgement began in 1844. This is on the basis of Daniel 8:14: "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." In Bible prophecy, one prophetic day equals one year of real time (see Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:5-6; Daniel 9:24-27). The 70 week prophecy establishes the beginning of the 2300 days, and because the last week of the prophecy involves the death of Christ, for which we have a date, we can be fairly certain about the starting date of the 2300 day prophecy, and therefore we would also know the ending date of the prophecy. But what I gather your question is that you're after "what" the investigative judgement is, rather than "when" it occurs. If you carefully examine the verse, you'll see it says that in 1844 "the sanctuary shall be cleansed." In the Torah, the sanctuary was only cleansed on one day of the year: Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. You can read about the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16. The short of it is that the sin that has built up in the sanctuary is taken out of the sanctuary and placed upon the scapegoat, and the people of Israel are cleansed of their sins. It is further described in Leviticus 23:26-32, where it says that the people who did not deny themselves on that day are cut off and destroyed. Now we know that there is a heavenly sanctuary that the earthly sanctuary was modelled after. (See Hebrews 9:23,24; Exodus 25:8,9.) We know that Christ is called our "High Priest" (see Hebrews 4:14-16). The book of Hebrews makes frequent reference to Christ in the heavenly sanctuary (for example, all of Hebrews 9). So in short, during this time period after 1844, a "day of atonement" ceremony is taking place in heaven, during which all of the sins throughout all of Earth's history are being cleansed by the blood of Christ, and being placed on the scapegoat; and the people who did not repent will be cut off and destroyed. Thus, Christ's Second Coming will end this "day of atonement" ceremony. More on reddit.com

Why the Investigative Judgment Doctrine Is Sound | Sabbath School Net
February 28, 2022 - We don’t need to rationalize away the biblical passages that speak of the judgment as being in the future. Since we believe Jesus will bring His reward with Him at His coming, the judgment needs only to take place shortly prior to the Second Coming. In essence, the Adventist doctrine of the Investigative Judgment is the natural outgrowth of Arminianism and Soul Sleep4 All the other elements (1844, the Hebrews passages, the day-year principle) are useful in understanding the Investigative Judgment and its relevance, but they are not essential.

THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGEMENT REFUTED
Peter said, "No prophecy of scripture is of its own interpretation." (2 Peter 1:20), that is, it should not be interpreted by itself. However, the Investigative Judgment is a prophecy based on one scripture by itself (Daniel 8:14), and so contradicts this principle of correct interpretation.

September 3, 2020 - Thus the relationship between the sanctuary and judgment described in the passages discussed above is a natural one. God’s government centers in His sanctuary. This is important because of the Adventist understanding of the pre-Advent, or investigative judgment; that is, His final end-time judgment executed from the heavenly sanctuary as depicted in, among other places, the book of Daniel.

Answer (1 of 5): The Investigative Judgment is NOT a term that’s found in the Bible; but rather, it’s a term coined by the Millerites to describe the work which Jesus is conducting right now. The Seventh-Day Adventists have adopted this term and continues to be a key doctrinal belief.

Investigative judgment: a scriptural concept
This article seeks to show that the idea of an inquiry stage in God's judgments is explicit from the first sin, and that believers' apprehension of this fact is a basis for present reassurance. It will be shown that this attests the equity of Deity, that it does not deny divine omniscience, and that it has pastoral relevance for the faithful.2 · From God's handling of the first sin a pattern of (and for) judicial procedure emerges. First comes the inquiry, or investigation: "Where are you?"
