Looking to upgrade the ram on my Mac mini, I have no idea what brand or what the max capacity is. I went online and saw its was max 64gb but I see rams being sold in pairs of 64gbs. A bit confused, looking for some simple answers thanks community !

Amazon had a one day Prime deal on for the 32GB modules, $65 each (Canadian!), so I couldn't resist picking up two and going for it. I watched a video of the procedure, read the iFixit guide a couple of times, and felt I was good to go. The first time through, I spent about 30 minutes slowly disassembling, not rushing it. I was extra careful when it came to the LED & fan connectors, since it seemed a lot of people had issues with those. Installed the new memory, and put it all back together. Fired it up and... ...only 32GB of memory showing as installed :( I walked away, went and had a shower, then came back to it. This time the disassembly took me about 5 minutes :) When I got to the memory, it appeared one module hadn't fully locked into position. I re-seated both just to be sure, inspected it a couple times, then put the shield back on. After reinstalling the main board into the chassis, but before reinstalling the fan, I decided to take a minute just to confirm. I hooked power & video up, started it, and this time it showed 64GB of memory installed! I shut it down quickly before anything had time to heat up, finished re-installing everything, and tried it again. Still all good!!! If you have any computer or electronic assembly experience, it's not a particularly difficult upgrade. It's certainly not as easy as it should be compared to pretty much any other computer (or even earlier Mac Mini models!!!) but if you watch the videos & follow the iFixit guide, be careful & take your time, you should have no issues upgrading the memory. I will almost certainly never push this box to its limits but for the price, I'm happy I did the upgrade.

I just purchased my first Mac, a late model 2018. It comes with 32GB of RAM, and I was hoping to upgrade to 64GB. For a 32GB model, does apple install one 32GB RAM module, or two 16GB sticks? I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy one 32GB stick to upgrade, or if I have to upgrade both of them to get to 64GB.

1st way: While option key pressed, click on the apple in the top left corner, choose "System information", then choose Memory. 2nd way: Open Terminal and run "system_profiler SPMemoryDataType". Both ways will show you the Memory configuration on your Mac. Mac mini 2018 can be upgraded up to 2 x 32 GB of PC4-21300 (2666 MHz) DDR4 S0-DIMM.
