The Link Between Your Gut and Eczema | Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology Physicians located in Sandy and West Jordan, UT and the Greater Salt Lake Area | Allergy Associates of Utah
This relationship between your gut, your immune system lays the foundation for your gut-skin axis. Eczema happens when a trigger — dust, pollen, or pet dander, for instance — triggers an abnormal immune response, along with an increase in inflammation.

Has anyone fixed their eczema through fixing their gut?
My son had serious eczema as a reaction to eggs. He had a patch that stayed no matter what, though. Mind you, he’s just a baby so this big patch was there for 5 months even though many other patches went away after quickly removing eggs from his diet. I’ve used a probiotic program from LoveBug since he was born and at 11 months I switched him to the Toddler product, which has more bacterial strains and CFUs. Within days the eczema patch was gone and a couple weeks I reintroduced eggs with zero reaction! It may come back, but so far his eczema is gone with assisting his gut with certain strains - so I believe it’s possible! B. Lactis, L. Casei, B. Longum, L. Paracasei, L. Rhamnosuis GG, L. Reuteri, B. Infantis, L. Gasseri are all the strains in his current probiotic. More on reddit.com

Eczema link with gut health - evidence?
Well a Cochrane review suggested it has little to no benefit for treatment, but it may prevent eczema if taken during pregnancy and probably shortly after. Although an RCT showed no benefit for supplementation on prevention of eczema in infants. So it’s sort of muddy. I think there’s probably a combo of probiotics and prebiotics that work which we haven’t found yet. The search is ongoing. I know this doesn’t help since I assume your baby has already been born… Edit to add another study showing effect for combining prenatal and postnatal supplementation and strain specific effect More on reddit.com

5 mo/old with eczema & my diet… help!
It might be less about what you are eating and more about what you AREN'T eating. That diet sounds incredibly restrictive so I wouldn't be surprised if the baby was missing some key nutrients for gut function (ie retinol, copper). More on reddit.com

A lot of my eczema symptoms seem linked to a compromised gut microbiome. Has anyone tried this recipe?

No, for me all the "heal your gut" is just a pseudoscience with no evidence.

Seems like they just associate it will all disease now.

"Have depression, heal your gut."

"Got cancer, heal your gut."

Edit. Him being a chiropractor and not a MD just reinforced it.

Eczema and gut health: Is there a link?
March 24, 2022 - Scientists believe dysbiosis in the gut and on the skin may cause this. The immune system may be detecting harmful levels of “bad” microbes on the skin and reacting to them. Dysbiosis and eczema may then create a cycle of inflammation that ...

March 19, 2025 - In babies with a high risk of eczema (for example, if the mother has it) and where the itch-scratch cycle isn’t yet triggered, studies have found up to 50% fewer cases of eczema in babies following probiotic treatment. For this to work, the mother would have to take probiotics during the last trimester of pregnancy, and ideally the baby would receive supplements as well. It is important to be aware, though, that the research studies are a mixed bag. The two main types of probiotic that impact on the gut – lactobacillus and bifidobacterium – are available in many different preparations, and the studies used various combinations of these.

r/ScienceBasedParenting on Reddit: Eczema link with gut health - evidence?
November 12, 2021 -

I've heard naturopaths and the occasional parent talk about the link of eczema with gut health, and seeing improvements after giving their children probiotics. Is there any scientific evidence for this link? My basic Google search doesn't generate results on medical or research websites that I would trust, eg peer reviewed journals, government health sources, hospital websites. Information tends to be reported on by parenting and health websites without cited sources.

I'd appreciate further information if you can share any.

I'm willing to be convinced about this link! Or any information, really. Eczema seems to be such a mystery and I'd love to go beyond treating the symptoms.
