DISCLAIMERS (bc I've gotten a couple of comments): Please don't take this as an estimate of what your COA will be or what COAs are for most universities in the US. I'm going to appeal this, and I'm hoping it's a clerical mistake. Leaving this post up because this document is supposed to be evaluated for loan approval for some medical loans, so it's having an impact on parts of my life regardless of whether or not it's a clerical mistake. I'm a current student at NYU, and I decided to commit solely based on the amount of money they offered me in scholarships/aid. I was promised a merit scholarship that would cover all of my tuition and fees for four years and $27,500/yr in other financial aid. This should have covered almost all of my expenses. For the next academic year, I'm being offered only 71.95% of the listed tuition and fees. That's 48% of the total cost of attendance, and $50,000 more than I had to pay last year. My family doesn't have that kind of money. My academic status hasn't changed, and neither have the terms of the scholarship. I'm going to appeal, but I'm not holding out much hope, given the stories I've heard about NYU's stinginess. A line that gets thrown around a lot is "NYU has shit financial aid," or "only go to NYU if your parents can pay your way through." Given the offer letter I got from them during my senior year, I didn't think that would be my experience. Sharing this so people will take into account the following when they decide where to go to college, even if they did get a full ride: a) the administration's history of working with student appeals, b) the cost of tuition as a result of the year-by-year increase, and c) whether these documents need to be accurate to be approved for other loans your family may need. NYU tuition and student loans
Are you serious? NYU is a private school. Most students either get scholarships or have financial backing. If you pay full price for NYU you’re an idiot. That will follow you for life. My favorite car brand is a Porsche. Did my dad break my heart by not buying me one when I turned 18? Yes. I’m sorry but if she isn’t good enough to get a full ride the school doesn’t value her. Break her heart now. Sallie Mae will break her heart later anyways. More on reddit.com

April 27, 2022 - It seems unlikely that they included room and board twice -- if you subtract room and board from the listed tuition and fees, it comes to $52,238, which is less than tuition was my first year. Still, I really hope you're right, and that this is just a clerical error. I'm definitely going to appeal based on the info in my comment at the top. ... You don't even need to appeal, just tell them your COA is wrong. ... I really think they included your room and board twice.
