TL;DW : As theorized by Dr. Gerald Pollack, UW professor of bioengineering, what we call surface tension is in fact an evidence of a fourth phase of water, where water behaves like crystal. We can use this phase to purify water, or even create electric energy out of water.
The video was posted in 2009, and seems, unless I'm simply out of the loop, that nothing has come of it.

Condensed matter grad student here, and I started writing this post pretty neutrally, but the more I look into the details, the more I see this presentation is a disaster. He may still do some real science, but for this presentation he repeatedly jumps to absurd conclusions. Selected absurdities, as my patience allowed: 19:00 He points out how there's a pH gradient, and that this is gonna be really important. It is somehow unimportant to mention at any point in the presentation I could find that Nafion is a god-damn superacid with remarkable transport properties: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nafion . It would be remarkable if there wasn't a pH gradient, but he plays it up as an effect of water ordering. 5:55 He asks how surface tension from a few molecular layers pose the risk of breaking your neck when high diving. Simple, they don't. Entering water at high speed => displacing large amounts of water quickly => large mass accelerated quickly => large forces on your body. A 200 micron thick gel will not break your neck. This should be pretty damn obvious for a water surfaces expert. Around 43:30 he starts talking about a possible energy flow for "the universe" and how some solar energy may go to ordering and separating charge in water and seems to suggest that this may be a dominant pathway over sunlight heating water. Unless he's not saying what it sounds like he's saying, this is really dumb. Go talk to oceanographers and climate modelers: total incoming solar energy, the amount reflected, and the amount absorbed are well studied quantities. No real difference between plants and water! Wait, does he know that infrared radiation doesn't drive photosynthesis? Does he know just how much work people have put into chlorophyll and electron transport, and why presence of chlorophyll is a much better predictor of photosynthesis than presence of water? p.s. photosynthesis is not remarkably efficient at turning solar energy into usable chemical energy. Sorry, I really wanted to stay non-snarky, because for all I know there may well be some real interesting science in longer range correlations, but he is clearly deliberately mixing that up into various brands of pseudoscience.
