Can i play csgo on this laptop :: Counter-Strike 2 Obecné diskuze
I mean with an gtx 1060 6gb, i5 ... play was dust, the old one at 100+ frames.. So you do the math now. csgo is a highly optimised game, and he is running it on low settings. My friends with bad laptops get 60fps on even new maps like dust II....

Mate, you do not need a £2000 laptop to run CS2.

While CS2 is definitely not brain dead easy to run like CSGO was, it's still a fairly light game.

That said, you have a fairly massive budget, so I'm just going to assume you want to run at max settings and whatnot.

You say you're not too savvy with computers, so just as a bit of background, in recent years high refresh displays are becoming more and more common.

Now, I'm sure you know higher FPS = better, but until the past years, most monitors weren't actually capable of displaying more than 60 FPS. Now that's not the case. At 60+ FPS, there is even more smoothness on top of the existing advantages to reaction time.

However, if FPS mismatches monitor refresh rate, you can get screen tearing, which is resolved through adaptive sync displays, that can dynamically change the refresh rate of a display to match rendered FPS.

So essentially, you're going to want a laptop with high refresh rate, ideally 120+ hz (hz = FPS, technically inaccurate, functionally good enough here) and with a GPU that can run CS2 at that FPS, and that supports some form of adaptive sync (G-sync or Freesync for Nvidia/AMD respectively).

On the one hand, a benchmark with a old 1050 ti laptop GPU hits 100fps at high, 80 very high on average, on the other hand, a modern desktop 3070 doesn't really linearly increase, I see a benchmark hitting 210 FPS on very high.

So for a laptop, we'll assume probably 3050 for 1080 max settings 120fps, and and probably 3060-3070 for 165fps or for 1440p.

Honestly, I don't even think you need to buy Alienware. Obviously if the aesthetic draws you, go ahead.

If you're firm on Alienware:

https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/gaming-and-games/alienware-m15-r7-gaming-laptop/spd/alienware-m15-r7-gaming-laptop/nawm15r702

3060 should be decently well matched to hit 165 FPS at 1080p for CS2, though you may want to add some additional storage as 512gb is a bit uncomfortably low IMO.

You have enough budget to upgrade to a 3070 and a 1440p screen if you so wish for other games that may be less emphasized on competitiveness but for more graphical fidelity, but if you only wish to play CS2 it's wholly unnecessary.

Alternatively, if you're not set on an Alienware machine, something like this may offer a bit more bang for buck:

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-legion-5i-pro-16-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-rtx-3070-ti-1-tb-ssd-10240727.html

You get a step up in graphics and display resolution for a negligible amount over the base Alienware with a more comfortable storage size. It also has a screen with a taller aspect ratio, which is nice for some productivity tasks. The design is a bit more understated than that of the Alienware, and there's a fairly vibrant community for technical advice and community made software to replace some of the manufacturer bloat on the Lenovo Legion discord.

Alternatively, you can save a bit of cash with this

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-legion-5-15.6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-rtx-3070-512-gb-ssd-10220310.html

This steps down the GPU by an insignificant amount, but you also don't need to drive a 1440p screen if you don't plan on playing other games which means you save some money there, though the storage is also a tad low, and as its preconfigured adding storage will have to be done yourself. Luckily, Lenovo laptops are fairly easy to open up and memory and storage is readily accessible unlike some of the Alienware models.

Aslong as the resolution on the new monitor is the same as on the laptop there shouldnt be any fps difference. Check first if you can even connect the monitor to the laptop and everything. But it shouldn't ruin the laptop.

Intel command center also has the function to stretch your game views. And because the resolution of other images is the same as that of your desktop so it wont be stretched.

I'd say no. GO was way more CPU heavy and if it only ran at 60 fps, I think you'll get maybe 15-20 out of that laptop. The game is free, maybe just try it out. I don't think, that you need any special tricks to run it.

u/rhinnoffare and anyone else struggling with this method, have a go at this. try download this. Set a hotkey for your native resolution and set a hotkey for the res you use in CSGO at 4:3 that you want stretched, and when you're in game, press the hotkey. I struggled with this today and this was the only solution I found that worked.

May 3, 2024 - Absolutely! CS:GO isn't super demanding on hardware, especially if you're cool with not maxing out the graphics settings. You might need to tweak settings like lowering the resolution or adjusting the graphics quality to get smoother gameplay, but older laptops can still run it.
