Scapegoat - Wikipedia
April 19, 2024 - The scapegoat, as a religious and ritualistic practice and a metaphor for social exclusion, is one of the major preoccupations in Dimitris Lyacos's Poena Damni trilogy. In the first book, Z213: Exit, the narrator sets out on a voyage in the midst of a dystopian landscape that is reminiscent of the desert mentioned in Leviticus (16...

Azazel and the “Scapegoat” (Leviticus 16) | Zondervan Academic
May 2, 2019 - If Azazel is a proper name, la ‘aza, zel in 16:10 following the words "by sending it into the desert" most naturally indicates the one to whom the live goat is sent: "to Azazel" (cf. 16:26). This rules out the common interpretation of ‘aza, zel as "(e)scapegoat," referring to the goat itself.

Jesus as Goat of the Day of Atonement in Recent Synoptic Gospels Research - Hans Moscicke, 2018
October 10, 2018 - The church fathers frequently perceived a typological correspondence between the passion of Christ and the two goats of Leviticus 16: the ‘goat to Yahweh’ (the immolated goat) and the ‘goat to Azazel’ (the scapegoat). For example, christological goat typologies appear in the Epistle ...

r/DebateReligion on Reddit: Judas is the scapegoat of Leviticus

I mean you no ill will when I say this, but this argument completely misunderstands the point of the scapegoat and the point of Jesus. The scapegoat bore all the sins of the people upon its back and took them away. Jesus does that, not Judas. Judas died a horrible death for his own sin, certainly not for the entire nation of Israel. Jesus is the scapegoat. He Himself took the sins of His people on His back, was abandoned by all, and then died alone (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). John the baptist perhaps affirms this when he said, “Behold, the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John the baptist was likely quoting from Isaiah 53 here, though the image of a sheep taking away the sins of the world likely (though not definitely) evoked to a Hebrew audience the image of the goat doing the same thing
