r/islam on Reddit: Question on Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 1, Hadith 3
August 17, 2023 -
This specific hadith recounts the incident when the Angel Gabriel came to Prophet Muhammad in the Cave of Hira and asked him to read. Prophet Muhammad replied that he could not read, to which the angel squeezed him tightly and released him. This happened three times, and then the first few verses of Surah Al-Alaq were revealed. After this experience, Prophet Muhammad returned home, and his wife Khadijah covered him and told him that he had been visited by an angel and was chosen as a prophet. My question is how did Khadijah know that Prophet Muhammad was visited by an angel? Was she given a sign?

You're slightly mistaken. Khadijah (ra) only assured the noble Prophet (saw) that Allah will never disgrace him and what happened to him must have been a good thing. She then took the prophet to Waraqah ibn Nawfal who had knowledge of Judeo-Christian scripture and had knowledge of how revelation used to come down to the previous prophets. Hope this helps.

When the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam came back he looked scared and distressed. He asked her to cover him and she did and that's when she said that Allah won't let anything happen to him as he is a good man( not in those words) and then he told her about the angel. So she didn't know beforehand

The document summarizes revelations received by the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It describes how sometimes revelations came to him like the ringing of a bell, and other times an angel would appear as a man and speak to him. It also recounts a story from Aisha, one of Muhammad's wives, where she saw him receiving a revelation on a very cold day and noticed sweat dropping from his forehead afterwards.
