December 26, 2024 - Saharan crude oil, also known as Saharan Blend, is a high-quality light sweet crude oil extracted from the West African region. It is named after the Sahara Desert, which is located in the same region.

December 12, 2019 - Oil products stockpiles at Fujairah in the UAE declined 8% in the week ended Feb. 2, with all categories declining, according to Fujairah Oil Industry Zone data published Feb. 4. The total fell to 21.490 million barrels, the first decrease in five weeks. Middle distillates such as jet fuel and diesel fell 15% week over week to 2.893 million barrels, the lowest in three weeks.

As at December 2021, Sub-Saharan Africa's share of world oil production and oil reserves was 4.8% and 4.14% respectively, and the share of gas production and reserves was 1.93% and 5.03% respectively.

Field expansions and enhanced oil recovery techniques have kept the country’s oldest fields at a steady rate of production; however, without additional upstream investment, decline rates are likely to grow, resulting in lower production. The country’s largest refinery, Skikda, is located along Algeria’s northern coastline, and it is the largest refinery in Africa. Skikda processes the Saharan blend, which derives from the Hassi Messaoud oil fields.

This increase places Sahara Blend in 3rd position among the most expensive crudes in the OPEC basket in February, after Angolan Girassol (62.99 dollars / barrel) and Equatorial Guinean Zafiro (62.46 dollars / barrels). The price of Algerian oil is established according to the price of Brent, a benchmark crude from the North Sea, listed on the London market with an additional premium for its physicochemical qualities appreciated by refiners.
