Lenin’s Conception of Socialism
Their standard of living was falling, as was their enthusiasm for socialism. In several regions, unrest among the peasants began flaring in late 1920. Lenin compared Russia to a man beaten within an inch of his life. The country had passed through seven years of almost continuous war. Lenin realized that “war communism” must be dismantled and replaced by policies to stimulate agriculture and industry, yield more consumer goods, and revive the flagging trade between urban and rural areas.[13]

Leninism - Wikipedia
2 days ago - In the aftermath of the October Revolution (1917), Leninism was the dominant version of Marxism in Russia and the basis of soviet democracy, the rule of directly elected soviets. In establishing the socialist mode of production in Bolshevik Russia—with the Decree on Land (1917), war communism (1918–1921), and the New Economic Policy (1921–1928)—the revolutionary régime suppressed most political opposition, including Marxists who opposed Lenin's actions, the anarchists and the Mensheviks, factions of the Socialist Revolutionary Party and the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries.

I fully agree. Lenin says that if there are no more classes and the world is living under socialism, there would be no need to keep the state as a thing. And if there is enough automated production, our concept of money would be useless. That would bring us to a classless, stateless and moneyless society. It's utopian, and Lenin/Marx wrote much more about the transitional phase.

I agree. I think it's important to clarify what exactly is being referred to by communism here. Communism refers to a idealized, utopian society, where money, class, and the state have been abolished, and goods are distributed based on need. The word communist has often been used to the experiments of the 20th century, headed by communist parties, and ostensibly infringed upon human freedoms more than I'm comfortable with. These societies, however, were at best socialist. But I dislike the idea that socialism is merely a transitional state. Communism is an extremely ambitious goal, and I don't think there's and doubt that we would live in a socialist state for several decades, if not centuries. So I think it's worth some effort to make socialism a somewhat independent functional system that people can somewhat comfortably live under, while we continue to work towards communism. I don't think we should just accept than a socialist state will be run in an undemocratic manner.

Answer (1 of 13): Because Lenin was not and should not be taken seriously. The man has left after his death a 55 volumes of writings that were mere lunacies. More or less. So, let's move to Marx from whom Lenin has adopted all his "work". Marx got it wrong. When group of people are consumed by co...
