November 9, 2025 - This distinction is in the process of being formalized into law, as the Likud government is currently drafting legislation to grant this request. This new attitude is founded largely by the perception by some that only in Israel the Christian population is growing due to natural increase and no state persecution, seeing the entire Middle East, except Lebanon, as where Christianity is and has been rapidly on the decline.

Hal Lindsey, one of the most influential American promoters of dispensationalism, wrote in The Late Great Planet Earth that, per Ezekiel (39:6–8), after Jews fight off a "Russian" invasion, Jews will see this as a miracle and convert to Christianity.

2 days ago - According to Lester L. Grabbe, although there are "various references to proselytizing in the literature from the Greek and Roman periods", "it seems unlikely that there was a major 'mission' on the part of the Jews to gain Gentile converts." Other historians believe that conversion during the Roman era was limited in number and did not account for much of the Jewish population growth, due to various factors such as the illegality of male conversion to Judaism in the Roman world from the mid-second century. Another factor that made conversion difficult in the Roman world was the halakhic requirement of circumcision, a requirement that proselytizing Christianity quickly dropped.

On Conversion
We have found a measure of favor among a small but growing number of mainstream Jewish leaders who, sensing the sheer breadth of Jewish orientations worldwide, want to make room for us at the Jewish table. Finally, we have had a profound impact on an important segment of the Christian Church, the Evangelical community.

4 days ago - The 1981 declaration took a more assertive stance, challenging the religious justification for Israel’s claims to the land, demanding a full cessation of U.S. military aid to Israel, and denouncing American policies that restricted the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Both declarations represented a growing Christian movement that sought to oppose pro-Israel evangelical perspectives and bring attention to Palestinian political and humanitarian concerns.

Being Jewish involves two aspects, an ethnicity and a religious faith. The ethnicity is conferred by one's lineage. Among all Jews, a Jewish matrilineal lineage will make the offspring Jewish. Among Reform Jews, patrilineal lineage will also render the offspring Jewish if the children were given a Jewish religious upbringing in the home. The Jewish religion is a set of religious beliefs and practices. Without going into much detail, suffice it to say that Judaism is waiting for the Messiah to arrive (it's a principle of faith to believe he will come, not that he has come). Therefore belief in Jesus as messiah is not part of the Jewish faith; neither is belief in Jesus as a prophet; and belief in Jesus as God or part of God is idolatry and forbidden to Jews. It follows that a person of Jewish ethnicity who "adopts" Christianity retains his or her ethnicity but not their Jewish religion. They are Jewish by birth -- converting to Christianity does not change your birth mother -- but they are not Jewish by religion. The status of such a person within Judaism is "apostate Jew." Should they later abandon their Christian faith, they would not have to "convert" back to Judaism, but historically they did have to undergo some form of formal return process -- whether public confession, contrition, repentance, and discussion with a rabbinical court. Interestingly under the Law of Return of Israel, you are considered Jewish if you have Jewish lineage (matrilineal or patrilineal) AND DO NOT belong to any other religion. Thus, a Christian monk who was formerly Jewish and wished to immigrate to Israel under the LOR was denied that right because he was not deemed Jewish under the LOR. (Under religious law, he would be considered an apostate Jew, but Israeli law differs from Jewish law -- the halachah -- on this point.)

Abramson’s rise makes him a prominent new face of a perpetual Christian missionary effort aimed at converting Jews into belief in Jesus as the Messiah. After serving on staff for years, he takes over an organization that, without much notice from the Jewish community, has grown into a global operation with a budget of more than $33 million and a staff of about 250 spread across 13 countries.
