r/UberEatsDrivers on Reddit: Minimum wage for uberEats in Ontario
So I looked at the earnings for last few weeks…if you really look at the active time…there is not much difference in what you will get paid because of this change. They should have considered the online time compensation as well. It would however be beneficial for amount of time which gets wasted waiting in restaurants and shoppings, traffic etc. I heard that BC version of this change was better.

Fair pay, basic protections coming for gig workers
B.C. is establishing a minimum wage of $20.88, which is 120% of B.C.’s general minimum wage (currently $17.40) and apply it to engaged time. Engaged time begins when a worker accepts an assignment through its completion. Engaged time does not include the time spent waiting between assignments. This is the rationale for adding a 20% premium. Platform companies will top up the difference when the earnings paid in a pay period do not meet the minimum earnings standard for the engaged time worked.

Rideshare workers can earn less than minimum wage. But an Ontario law starting July 1 misses a chance to fix that, advocates say
July 3, 2025 - The rules in Ontario guarantee a minimum wage of $17.20 an hour for “engaged time” — the hours drivers spend actively completing trips or deliveries — but ignore the time spent waiting for work, which many drivers say now makes up a ...

Wow..... I'm in Texas and I wish they would do something like that over here. From what I understand, California passed a similar law recently that requires them to be paid at least minimum wage. It's ridiculous to me that this isn't being passed EVERYWHERE Either way... Good for you, bro! Enjoy getting paid!!!

Some Ontario gig workers got a raise on July 1 — but it comes with strings attached
August 15, 2025 - Some Ontario gig workers, including drivers with ridesharing services, got a bit of a pay raise on Canada Day — but there are strings attached. The Digital Platform Workers’ Rights Act, which came into effect on July 1, aims to provide minimum wage standards for gig workers who get hired through digital platforms. Many gig workers in Canada drive for ridesharing and delivery services such as Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes.

June 27, 2025 - So, if you want to make $25 per hour, you need to be earning $50 per active hour, and that's wildly unlikely at this rate. ... You aren't required to take every order, it pays per active hour you can still accept or decline. ... No ... active as in if you don't have any delivery you don't get paid for that hour or portion of hours

New Ontario gig worker law coming into effect and here are the details
June 28, 2025 - New legislation is about to take effect, granting more rights to rideshare, food delivery, and other gig workers in Ontario who operate through digital platforms such as Uber Eats, Lyft, and Instacart. The new Digital Platform Workers' Rights Act, which was tacked on to the Working for Workers Act introduced in 2022, will, most notably, require employers to provide greater transparency regarding a respective position's duties and pay, and to offer at least standard minimum wage via a regular pay cycle, regardless of whether a worker is technically an employee by legal definition.

Uber drivers in Ontario will now have their wages determined entirely by an algorithm - The Globe and Mail
October 8, 2024 - The compensation change, which Uber is calling “upfront pricing” and takes effect this week, is a sharp deviation from the existing wage structure for drivers, which paid them a fairly predictable rate based on time taken to complete a trip and distance travelled. Critics say it removes the predictability of drivers’ pay and potentially drives it lower. Upfront fares will allow drivers to see their expected earnings in advance of the trip commencing.
