What is Saint Catherine’s Monastery?
Saint Catherine’s Monastery, founded in 527 by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, is a Greek Orthodox monastery on Mount Sinai in Egypt. Built in 530 CE, the building of the monastery was in response to complaints of robber incursions from hermit monks who had settled there. Justinian fortified the site of the burning bush observed by Moses.

The monastery has a rich history and retains much of its original appearance since the 6th century. Its greatest treasures are its icons, some painted before the 8th century, and its manuscripts, which are mainly Greek and Arabic. The monastery was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002.

St. Catherine's monastery, Mount Sinai, Egypt. It was founded by Emperor Justinian I in the mid-6th century AD.
St Catherine's monastery was built by order of the Emperor Justinian I, who reigned from 527 to 565, on the site beneath Mount Sinai. The compound is well-preserved, owing to the fact that it has never been attacked or pillaged in its entire history. According to scripture, Moses encountered a miraculous burning bush at this location. An angel of God spoke to him through the bush and sent him on a mission to Egypt to bring the Israelites out of slavery (Exodus 3:1–6). Mt. Sinai would also be the famous location where, after the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea, God met with Moses at it's peak and delivered the Ten Commandments. According to Jewish tradition, not only the decalogue but also the entire corpus of Hebrew biblical text (first five books of the old testament) was revealed to Moses on Sinai. More on reddit.com

TIL Muhammad sent a letter to the monks of Saint Catherine's Monastery in Mount Sinai. "This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them..."
Me being a former muslim, (still seemingly muslim to friends and family but inwardly nothing) and my name being Muhammad, I always check out anything Islamic related. One thing I've noticed is we have a horrible reputation but we're also extremely misunderstood and blown out of proportion. I have to admit, if I lived life the way I was taught, I'd be an amazing person (the muslim way- according to the Qu'ran and Hadiths and such) As soon as I saw I thought to myself before even clicking the comments "There's gonna be that one person who is going to be completely against it and sound like they know what they're talking about and make Islam seem bad" I hate stuff like that. I understand that Reddit is a great foundation of knowledge and humor mixed together, but if you guys actually want to know the truth, like REALLY WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH, then stop relying on the Media, stop relying on the bad stuff they say about Islam (which is mostly made up or stretched) and actually go out and do research on it. I'm not a Muslim scholar, nor am I a practicing muslim anymore, but it truly is the religion of peace (please don't mistake me for saying that this is the "true" religion because I respect all other faiths and ways of life). All in all, before you go around hating something, go out and learn about it before you do so. Still saddens me to see people jumping to conclusions as to how someone's character, dignity, morals, and values are based on what is televised and lied about rather than the truth. And sometimes it's pure ignorance; they choose to do it. More on reddit.com
