5 days ago - On 1 December 2003, the two parties signed an unofficial suggested plan for peace in Geneva (dubbed the Geneva Accord). In sharp contrast to the road map, it is not a plan for a temporary ceasefire but a comprehensive and detailed solution aiming at all the issues at stake, in particular, Jerusalem, the settlements and the refugee problem. It was met with bitter denunciation by the Israeli government and many Palestinians, with the Palestinian Authority staying non-committal, but it was warmly welcomed by many European governments and some significant elements of the Bush Administration, including Secretary of State Colin Powell.

3 days ago - Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned. Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life sentence prisoners plus 1700 Gazans who were detained after October 7, 2023, including all women and children detained in that context. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are released, Israel will release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans. Once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty.

On September 9, 1993, Arafat sent a letter to Prime Minister Rabin, in which he stated unequivocally that the PLO: Recognizes the right of Israel to exist in peace and security. Accepts UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. Commits itself to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Hamas, in essence, agreed to the framework from the start and just demanded guarantees that it would lead to the end of the war and full Israeli withdrawal. Israel disagreed to commit to ending the war.

August 16, 2023 - The Abraham Accords (consisting of a general declaration alongside bilateral agreements between Israel and the individual parties) were signed by Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco. Sudan also signed the general declaration, but ongoing instability in the country has delayed its ability to sign a bilateral agreement to normalize relations.
