Lab Leak: The True Origins of Covid-19 – The White House
August 15, 2025 - Public health officials often mislead the American people through conflicting messaging, knee-jerk reactions, and a lack of transparency. Most egregiously, the federal government demonized alternative treatments and disfavored narratives, such as the lab leak theory, in a shameful effort to coerce and control the American people’s health decisions. When those efforts failed, the Biden Administration resorted to “outright censorship—coercing and colluding with the world’s largest social media companies to censor all COVID-19-related dissent.” ... That said, the emergence of the second and third theories cannot be dismissed solely as conspiracy thinking. Given the Chinese government's early actions—such as suppressing information, delaying disclosure of critical data, and silencing Chinese medical professionals—skepticism toward its transparency and credibility is not entirely unfounded. This lack of transparency severely hindered an objective investigation into the origin of the virus and fueled the spread of the lab-leak or intentional manipulation hypotheses. While the first theory has greater scientific support, if critical facts were indeed concealed by the Chinese authorities, even the best-supported theory might eventually collapse. However, such skepticism must be carefully distinguished from unsubstantiated claims in order to preserve the integrity of scientific reasoning. The key principle is that support for any hypothesis must be reserved until it is backed by sufficient scientific evidence.

May 31, 2021 - “When people saw those warning labels, 95% of the time they did not go on to view the original content,” the company says. Moreover, if an article is rated “false” by their “fact checkers”, the network will “reduce its distribution”. This means that, while an author or poster is not aware that censorship is taking place, the network could be hiding their content so it is not widely disseminated. ... The second announcement — released on the same day — was that Facebook is now extending its policy of “shadow-banning” accounts that promote misinformation.

How Facebook censored the lab leak theory | Political Talk
There was, of course, no hint of apology in its most recent statment; though its tone proved quite the contrast to Facebook’s boast last year that, in April alone, it displayed “warnings” on 50 million “pieces of content related to Covid-19”. That was just the start; in February this year, Facebook even placed a warning on a piece for UnHerd by Ian Birrell, an award-winning investigative reporter who has been writing about the origins of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. ... Yet this climate of censorship was, in many ways, inevitable; what else are we to expect from a global corporation that has the power to determine what are “facts”, and then police them into existence? As for the murky practice of shadow-banning, it seems inevitable that it will only add to the atmosphere of conspiracy and mistrust surrounding debates over Covid-19. Big Tech got its “misinformation” policy wrong on the lab leak hypothesis — and, if its behaviour in the past week is any indication, it hasn’t

Facebook reverses course, won't ban Covid lab leak theory - Times of India
May 27, 2021 - The new statement updates guidance from Facebook in February when it said it would remove false or debunked claims about the novel coronavirus which created a global pandemic killing more than three million. The move followed President Joe Biden's directive to US intelligence agencies to investigate competing theories on how the virus first emerged — through animal contact at a market in Wuhan, China, or through accidental release from a research laboratory in the same city.
