Microbotics - Wikipedia
3 weeks ago - Microbotics (or microrobotics) is the field of miniature robotics, in particular mobile robots with characteristic dimensions less than 1 mm. The term can also be used for robots capable of handling micrometer size components. Microbots were born thanks to the appearance of the microcontroller in the last decade ...

Evolution of the Microrobots: Stimuli-Responsive Materials and Additive Manufacturing Technologies Turn Small Structures into Microscale Robots
February 15, 2024 - The donor layer can be either solid or liquid, and a wide range of materials, including metal nanoparticles and biomaterials, are suitable for this technique [22]. LIFT is mainly a tool for the rapid and accurate creation of patterns on the substrate, but it is also possible to use it to fabricate three-dimensional structures [21,34]. The patterning capabilities of this technique were first explored in OLED (organic light emitting diode) fabrication [46], but over the past two decades, it has been also applied to build sensors [47], electrochemical capacitors [48], and transistors [49]. While the wide range of materials makes LIFT potentially interesting for such a wide range of applications, there are some significant challenges ahead for use in microrobotics.

Tumbling Microrobots for Future Medicine | American Scientist
February 12, 2019 - Looking further ahead, once they can be manipulated accurately and repeatedly at the subcellular size range, microrobots could enable tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, whereby damaged tissue and organs could be repaired or entirely rebuilt. Medical engineers have been working toward these goals for more than three decades, but recent advances in semiconductor fabrication techniques have spurred a surge in microscale and nanoscale research that is making viable medical microrobots look increasingly attainable.
