The original Les Paul model can claim a list of users that amounts to a who's who list of rock royalty - Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Frampton, Slash, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons, and Joe Walsh among others - but remains out of reach financially for many players. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard gets one in your hands for a fraction of the price, with all the same mojo and feel.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top - Unbiased Guitar Review and Thorough Specification
Although the 'Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top' is considered a budget practice electric guitar, oriented mostly towards beginners, because of its high build quality, great durability, and rich tone, there's no reason not to use it as a relatively inexpensive pro guitar as well, in my opinion.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s Electric Guitar - Ebony – Alto Music
Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s Electric Guitar - Ebony - Epiphone’s long friendship with Mr. Les Paul began in 1940 when Les built one of the world’s first solidbody electric guitars while working nights at the original Epiphone factory in Manhattan. r/Guitar on Reddit: [Question] Is the Epiphone Les Paul Standard a good guitar for me?
July 21, 2018 -
I started playing guitar when I was 5 or 6 and am now in high school and looking to upgrade from a Squire Strat. I’ve been looking at a bunch of models and the Epi Les Paul looks like a good guitar and is relatively cheap. Is this the kind of guitar that is good for me, or is there a different model that might be better. My budget is around the price of a Epi, 500-700 dollars.

Given you are experienced as a player you really do need to get yourself into a store and try some guitars out. You just can’t know what is going to work for you without getting your hands on them and actually playing. Case in point. I was in a store this morning and one of the guitars I looked at was the Paul Reed Smith Nitro CE. On paper an amazing guitar. £1900 super high quality instrument. Visually it was mind-blowing. Yet as a player I didn’t really get along with it. I found the neck a bit strange and there were just a few things that did not sit quite right with me. But that’s not to say it was a bad guitar. Just that for me it did not work. For someone that is going to be guitar nirvana. The Epiphone Standard is a nice guitar no question. But it is VERY different to what you are used to. Different shape, sound, feel, scale length. Just about as different as you could get and still be an electric guitar. So you need to try it for yourself and see if it works.

In that budget range, I’d say that’s a solid choice, especially if you’ve got your eye on one.
