Does anyone know of some good alternatives to proton drive while proton make this product better ? Needs to be E2EE I’ve tried Tresorit which is ok but wondering if I’m missing any alternatives that aren’t widely known Must be able to stream video, good upload and download speeds and office suite compatibility if possible Cheers

What do you like about Proton Drive? What can be improved? What do other competitors like Filen, Mega etc. better?

I'm happy with Filen, but I need another one. It's better to name the service, which I am happy with, rather than mentioning all my requirements.

Still, here are some key points.

• Client-side zero-knowledge e2e encryption

• Open source is preferable.

• Not from any ecosystem

• App availability for Android, iOS, and Windows.

• Have a good track record or be owned by any privacy-respecting company.

Why not Filen with a different account? I want some different user experience. Using the same app with different accounts is not for me.

Why not Proton Drive? I use any one product from each ecosystem, as I am using ProtonMail; I don't want to use Proton Drive (even though I have 15GB storage with my mail subscription).

Cryptomator with any cloud storage? Cryptomator is a good option but not for day-to-day life. Suppose I have a huge amount of data that I need to store for a long time; then I'll use Cryptomator and encrypt it before uploading it to the cloud. But, for daily life, I need to store them without encrypting them so that I can access them whenever I need.

Why zero-knowledge encryption? It makes me feel safer. As I use it on a daily basis, I don't need that; still, I feel safer from my side.

Why open source? Not mandatory, but I use all open-source apps on my device except those default call apps and ProtonMail. So, to stay in the flow, it is better to have open source.

I’ve been trying to get better at online privacy and security, but I feel like there’s always more to do. Here’s what I’m doing so far. I use Proton Mail as my main email and temporary emails for sketchy websites. I have 2FA on important accounts and I use ProtonVPN to protect my traffic both on public WiFi and at home to add an extra layer to my connection. For passwords, I rely on ProtonPass.

I still have a single Gmail account that I only use for YouTube. It’s my old email and I still have some accounts I need to move from it. For personal files and photos, I use Proton Drive, and I use MEGA only as a backup for my most sensitive files. Ente Auth handles 2FA and I make Proton aliases for social media. I mostly browse with Zen Browser using uBlock and Privacy Badger.

The apps and services I use the most are Apple services, Google, Proton Suite, Steam, Amazon, Discord, GOG Store, Instagram, Notion, Reddit, AliExpress, ChatGPT, Crunchyroll, Epic Games, Perplexity, TikTok (once at month), and Twitter.

I’m wondering if anyone has tips or ideas on things I could be missing. Anything that could help me be a bit safer and more private online would be awesome.

Hey everyone, I need a cloud storage which have better privacy than most of the so called privacy focused cloud providers.

My requirements are --

• Client Side End-to-End Encryption

• Zero-knowledge Encryption

• Ram based servers (I heard this word mostly in vpn, don't know if it applicable in cloud)

• No option for account recovery (as I think it's the highest level of privacy)

• Have mobile and ddesktop app

• Other useful features (I forgot)

Some Keypoints --

• I know I should always uee encryption software for encrypt the files from my side then upload it to the cloud. It looks very easy but hard for regularly or frequently used files as I have to access it anytime, so download it from cloud then decrypt it takes so much time. So, finding fully privacy focused cloud provider.

• Excluding Proton drive as I have protonmail and I don't want to link my personal cloud storage with my email.

• Previously, I had a subscription for sync but they've recently removed encryption terms from their website so I am afraid to use it.

I need your suggestions, there have too many option in cloud market and most of them claim themselves as secure and privacy focused.

I am looking for a backup solution, and my requirements are that it's encrypted, supports CLI access and European.

Privacy guides which I don't really trust (and that's another whole can of worms), suggests Proton Drive, Peergos and Tresorit. I have found Filen on my own, which also fulfills the requirements explained in Privacy Guides.

I might be falling prey to marketing because I'm leaning heavily towards Filen, but I want to get opinions because I found some Reddit posts from a while ago where some users had very serious (unfounded) accusation.

Worth mentioning other alternatives and why I'm rejecting them:

- Proton is a no go, I already use them for email and don't want to overly rely on a single provider

- Peergos sounds overly complex with it's peer to peer architecture.

- Hetzner I have also considered, but they already are my VPS provider, and I would need to roll out my own encryption I believe.

Which leaves me, to my knowledge with two options:

- Tresorit, I can't find anything on CLI access and it seems excessively focused on sync? Idk, something about the vibe is off, can't put words to it and is likely irrational

- Filen, but it almost seems too good, I can't find any record of security audits, and I feel a product like this should be bragging openly if they had them?

I am looking for feedback on Filen mainly, but also open to other European suggestions. I've looked in the sub, but most recommendations are just "selfhost it" or the above options with little explanation, so I think a new discussion is warranted.

I know I should always use encryption software along with cloud providers and it's nearly impossible to access my data if I encrypt the file by myself before upload it on cloud. I consider it as an extra layer of encryption and I'll be happy to use it with my privacy first cloud choice.

I'm focusing on privacy first cloud providers because I can't always encrypt my data before upload it on cloud. There have some data which I need frequently and also I don't want to store them in my device as well, due to this (and many more reason) I'm finding a good privacy focused option.

From my research, I've found few services that are looking promising in this field. The services are Filen, Tresorit, Icedrive. But don't know much about them and also should I trust them or not.

Also, heard about Koofr but according to their website their Koofr vault is client side encrypted, zero knowledge encrypted so I think it looks like pcloud.

For past experience, I've used Mega ans sync both are good no problem from usability side. But I can't trust those because,

• Mega has chinese investors also read some post where users complained that their files are automatically removed due to copyright issue

• Recently, sync removed encryption keyword from their website. Probably, end-to-end encryption keyword is only in plan comparison section.

I'm looking for alternatives to Google Drive, and I'm thinking of going with one free and one paid option. I'm starting to think that a paid option will be better in the long run, because the provider gets a revenue stream from the service and an incentive to retain customers. Given that there are multiple paid services out there, the competition gives providers an incentive to satisfy customers while limiting price increases.

The wiki lists Nextcloud, Owncloud, Crypt.ee, and CryptPad. The sidebar of "Getting Started" lists Proton Drive, Filen, and Nextcloud (again). I'm sure that there are other good options not listed in the wiki or "Getting Started".

My questions:

• If you're using one of the options listed in the wiki or "Getting Started" resource, why do you prefer that one over the others listed?

• If you're using something not listed in the wiki or "Getting Started" resource, why do you prefer that one over any of the "official" Google Drive alternatives?

• If you're using a paid service, what makes yours a better value for you over the other paid services?
