Changing Dahua Doorbell DHI-VTO2202F-P-S2 audio codec · blakeblackshear/frigate · Discussion #2572
With this tool, I could change the audio encoding codec that the doorbell uses from the weird PCM S16BE (which is not supported by the WebRTC card by the way) to AAC or a more standard G711.

Dahua Cam Audio Shootout! | IP Cam Talk
April 27, 2018 - If not, are saying the audio is analog in the cat5 cable and is digitized by the NVR or computer running NVR software like Blue Iris? Also, I would have thought that a high bitrate AAC would be the preferred encoding... mostly because I’m an Apple FanBoy (which doesn’t mean I’m not pissed at Apple half the time! ) and did not recognize the other encoding types mentioned in your typical Dahua cam Specs.

Two way audio at the Dahua cam - Am I dreaming? | IP Cam Talk
July 6, 2016 - I had a look at the Dahua API, section 13.2.1 mentions that the audio codec must be G.711 a-law, it would be worth checking what the DVR is configured to. ftp://ftp.asm.cz/Dahua/kamerove_systemy/_SDK&API/HTTP API/DAHUA_HTTP_API_FOR_DVR_V1.29.pdf Also you've not mentioned what cameras and firmware you're running?

r/homeassistant on Reddit: AAC support for Dahua Cameras
January 30, 2024 -

Hi All,

I am a newbie here and in market for some good cameras for Frigate/HomeAssistant Setup. I think I am going to settle down with the Dahua. But on Frigate's recommended hardware webpage, the first line states

Cameras that output H.264 video and AAC audio will offer the most compatibility with all features of Frigate and Home Assistant.

I tried to looked the spec sheets of dozens of Dahua Cameras on their website but none of them have AAC listed as Audio Compression.

I just want to confirm few things as below.

  1. Do they actually not have AAC or it's just missed out in their documentation?

  2. If some of you have Dahua which does actually support AAC, can you please confirm with the model number?

  3. If they don't support AAC, which features will I be missing out in Frigate and HA?

Thanks

2-Way Audio is Broken with AAC on ISAPI Cameras · Issue #1911 · AlexxIT/go2rtc
October 18, 2025 - The weird thing is, I went into the camera settings and changed the audio codec from AAC to G.711 ulaw. Boom! The microphone appeared instantly, and 2-way audio started working perfectly. ... Why does it only work with G.711? I thought AAC or Opus was better/more modern, and I even tried to transcode to Opus in the config. Is the ISAPI/RTSP/ONVIF backchannel hardcoded to only accept G.711?

no audio from Dahua IP camera microphone | IP Cam Talk
May 12, 2021 - I was doing this very thing today with my new Dahua and HikVision cameras. I found that I also had to match the "audio encoding" setting that was on the camera with BI. So if my camera said "G.711u" I had to select that in BI as well. I got the HikVision camera working, pretty cool!

Audio quality in Dahua System | IP Cam Talk
February 7, 2018 - That camera isn't made by Dahua. There are two options that make sense to me, recording the audio & video on a camcorder and recording the audio on a computer (preferably multi-track). The camcorder is actually a very good option. The audio codecs on an IP cam or DVR aren't optimized for music, most are codecs used for voip telephone calls.

April 14, 2023 - So I need to issue a command to the API to select a different file to do this. Click to expand... I would just download both audio files and make them into one audio file with Audacity. You may need an SD card inside of the camera to upload audio files to.
