Robert A. Heinlein’s Crazy Years. | Stuff I Done Wrote - The Michael A. Charles Online Presence
August 5, 2020 - Somewhere between World War II and the first man on the moon Heinlein prophetically placed the Crazy Years – “a gradual deterioration of mores, orientation and social institutions, terminating in mass psychoses in the sixth decade”.

Heinlein's History of the Future:"The Crazy Years" - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board
I haven’t read heinlein in years. Anyway, he projected the future of the USA in a timeline-some point in the future was the so-called “Crazy years”. What went on during that time? When did it end? More on boards.straightdope.com

Crazy Years
No, in the Future History chart the "Crazy Years" came before the "STRIKE OF 76" (presumably from "The Roads Must Roll"), so the Crazy Years line up pretty nicely with the broad social upheavals of the 1960s. The Current Unpleasantness lines up with the beginning of "Religious dictatorship in U.S." (racist populist Nehemiah Scudder was elected in 2012). Fingers crossed that we've averted this, but there are clearly people still trying to make "...blood in the streets...[T]he next election was never held" come true. More on reddit.com

The 'mission statement' of "The Crazy Years" was thus: ... in Heinlein's Future History chart, the last decades of the twentieth century—the ones he wrote about and discussed as seldom as possible—were clearly and ominously marked: "the Crazy Years." I discussed this with him several times ... More on forum.rpg.net

Heinlein, In Retrospect | Other Media | RPGnet — 30 Years of Independent Talk on Tabletop Roleplaying!
Despite having eleventy-billion new books to read, I've been on something of a nostalgia kick recently. I've been re-reading books that I used to love, as a way of treating myself at a time when life is being...difficult. When I was a lad, one of my absolute favorite authors was Robert... Welcome to our crazy years
August 27, 2017 - The Crazy Years, in Heinlein’s timeline, were when rapid changes in technology, together with the disruption those changes caused in mores and economics, caused society to, well, go crazy.

Do you think we are in Robert Heinlein's Crazy Years? He predicted it ends 2010, but he may be off by 10. - Quora
Answer (1 of 11): The “Crazy Years”, was set somewhere between the end of the War (WW2) and the first moon landing, through 2100. An era spanning a century and a half and known for technological and scientific advancement. However, it was somewhat known for the begining of a period of America ...

March 25, 2017 - Seriously, read his last paragraph (above) again. Then recall that Heinlein portrayed Nehemiah Scudder taking the White House against the will of a majority, in 2012. (He also spoke of America sinking into “The Crazy Years.”)

December 24, 2019 - However, back in the early 1940s, Heinlein imagined the United States going through what he called the “Crazy Years” and later on experiencing religious fanaticism that leads to a theocracy.

The Crazy Years - Daily Kos
August 20, 2021 - I’m sure I am not the first to observe this, but it seems Robert A. Heinlein was on to something when he conceived of “The Crazy Years” as a condition American society found itself in as it absorbed technological, demographic, and economic changes into the whole of our civilization.

[Where I Read] Spider Robinson's "The Crazy Years" | Other Media | RPGnet — 30 Years of Independent Talk on Tabletop Roleplaying!
August 11, 2013 - One of his characters summed it up by describing the Crazy Years as "a period when a man with all his gaskets tight would have been locked up." This book is dedicated to the notion that Heinlein was right: that future generations will look back on us as the silliest, goofiest, flat-out craziest crew of loonies that ever took part in the historical race from womb to tomb; that never before in human history has average human intelligence been anywhere near as low as it is today; and that no culture on record has ever behaved as insanely as this one now does routinely.

March 16, 2017 - I speak from experience when I say that if you grab it as a fourteen year old boy devouring all the available science fiction it will feel like a rollicking good read, and also from experience when I say that if you revisit it in your twenties you will quietly disown it (although I do still have great affection for six-dimensional spacetime and the twist on 666). It's not that it hasn't aged well. It's that it doesn't improve as you get older; quite the opposite. Heinlein's views on women are going to make you wince intermittently if you continue a reread, but they'll make you wince there most of all.

The Crazy Years and their Empty Moral Vocabulary » John C. Wright's Journal
January 12, 2010 - The gap between Verne’s dream and Rickover’s reality was eight decades, about the time separating Heinlein’s writing of “Menace from Earth” and its projected date. Looking back from the year 2010, however the dates seem remarkably optimistic and compressed. We have not even mounted a manned expedition to Mars as yet, and no return manned trips to the Moon are on the drawing boards. One prediction that was remarkably prescient, however, was the advent of “The Crazy Years” described as “Considerable technical advance during this period, accompanied by a gradual deterioration of mores, orientation, and social institutions, terminating in mass psychoses in the sixth decade, and the interregnum.”
