Italy - Customs Regulations
In March 2018, the EC published a proposal (EU) No 2018/0040 for a draft regulation amending Regulation (EU) No 952/2013 to prolong the transitional use of means other than the electronic data-processing techniques provided for in the UCC. The EC continues to evaluate the timeline by which the EU-wide integration of the customs IT system can be implemented. Most customs duties and value-added taxes are expressed as a percentage of the value of goods being declared for importation. Thus, it is necessary to have a standard set of rules for establishing the goods’ value, which will then serve for calculating the customs duty.

r/Italian on Reddit: Absurd Italian Customs Fee for Sending a Gift to Italy - Need Advice
December 16, 2024 -

Hi guys.. I sent a package from USA to Italy valued at $110 through USPS. This was my 1st time sending something to Europe. At the post office, I was told that the recipient would have to pay $42 as a customs fee when he receives it, which surprised me since this is a gift.

This is the 1st time I've ever heard of this shit. The customs fee is almost half the value of the gift. I had no choice but to send it.

The recipient isn't aware of this customs fee. Is there any way to pay for this fee before the recipient picks it up when it arrives in Italy?
