What are your thoughts on the harmony YouTube channel?
I know there was some controversy about the guy who runs it coming from another channel where he basically scammed his viewers out of several hundred thousand dollars in a (questionably legal?) program where viewers bought "stock" in the channel at ridiculously high prices that they would never have been able to make a return on, then nuked the channel not long after and never made anyone whole. Look up the "Disrupt youtube scandal" if you want to read about it Once I found that out I stopped watching his content because I can't trust that he isn't running some sort of grift with this channel now that the other one fell through, which I don't want to support. His intents may be good but I can get information elsewhere EDIT: Someone dm'd me about what happened with his old channel and it turns out I was wrong. What happened was that Jak (the guy running Harmony now) had attempted to get $500,000 out of his viewers to pay off the debt he'd accrued from buying out his ex-partner's portion of the company through a Wefunder campaign under very misleading pretenses. But after the scandal blew up, the fundraising failed, he shut down the page, and everyone did actually get their money back which is good to learn. More on reddit.com
What Theological Doctrines Still Separate the Catholic and ...
Orthodox vs Catholic: can someone explain to me simply what the difference is and why there is a difference? Also regarding the Eucharist, if the Orthodox church believes it to be the body and blood of Christ, is it transubstantiated in the Orthodox Church like it is in the Catholic Church?
Roman Empire got big. Really big. So big it needed two capitals. People close to one capital didn’t speak the language of the people at the first capital. Different languages led to translation errors. Little schisms. More translation errors. Little schisms. Rinse and repeat for a few hundred years. Bigger schism. Things went quiet for a bit andullaOFASUDDEN CRUSADE! I also know almost nothing about the East-West Schism, so take it all with a grain of salt. More on reddit.com
Why do Catholics care so much about unification when Orthodox don't?
Because we care about people and don't want division? Moreover, why isn't this same re-unification energy given to our separated Protestant brethen? It is, but the difference between Catholic Theology and Protestant Theology is vastly greater than the difference between Orthodox and Catholic Theology. There is also no single unifying structure with which to negotiate between Catholics and Protestnats at large. More on reddit.com

Toward a Multicultural Symphonia: Orthodox Solidarity in an Age of Diversity - Public Orthodoxy
August 7, 2024 - As an ethical ideal grounded in the pursuit of social harmony and concordance amongst distinct voices, symphonia can be re-conceptualized as implying a more robust and polyphonic understanding of its purview, whereby symphonia may serve as the foundation of an Orthodox Christian multiculturalism. In Byzantium, symphonia was proposed as an ideal model of Church-State relations between the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Emperor.

December 3, 2001 - Recent decades have seen a renewal of ecumenical spirit and dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox churches. The Byzantine Empire never fully recovered from the sack of Constantinople in 1204. Over the next two centuries, it entered a precipitous decline in both territory and influence. In 1453, a much-diminished Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottoman Empire, ending what was once the most powerful state in the Orthodox Christian world, if not in all Christendom.

August 5, 2020 - He believed that a spiritually and morally regenerated leadership in the Orthodox Church would greatly contribute to the spiritual and moral elevation of the people on the one hand, and to the progress of the State in all of its endeavors on the other. He was particularly interested in those who held an episcopal throne.

The Synodal Structure of the Orthodox Church - Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America
The "endemousa" synod presided over by the patriarch was permanent in the sense that the Church considered herself in a state of permanent synodal consultation whenever acting in unanimity for the common good.[7] The "endemousa" synod grew steadily in importance and eventually became a permanent institution in the Orthodox Church.

1 week ago - Byzantine chants are associated with the Eastern Roman Empire's period (AD 330 to 1453) and developed from Jewish and Syrian traditions in the early-Christian Church. This continued to evolve throughout the 16th century. However, many mistake it for Greek Christianity in the east, but is unrelated to the ancient Greek period. Northern Slavs, however, have used simpler tonal systems evolved through the sundry local types of Znamenny chant; today Western music, often with four-part harmony, and the "tones" are simply sets of melodies.

December 8, 2023 - In 2022, Putin broke with tradition and spent Christmas services as the sole congregant in the Church of the Icon Not Made by Human Hands at his presidential residence near Moscow (Figure 5). Like images from the 2018 inaugural prayer service, Christmas photos that show Putin alone with clergy offer a new type of Christmas portraiture that combines his elevated political and spiritual roles to re-sacralize his leadership. Putin’s Christmas address underscored partnerships between state and Orthodox Church as he emphasized the latter’s role in social initiatives.63 Doing so, he described in

1 week ago - In western Europe and in the Americas, in particular, overlapping jurisdictions have been set up, and political passions have led to the formation of ecclesiastical organizations without clear canonical status. Although it has provoked controversy, the establishment of the autocephalous Orthodox Church in America (1970) by the patriarch of Moscow has as its stated goal the resumption of normal territorial unity in the Western Hemisphere.
