Your sdk is missing a script and it can’t refer back to your avatar. If it was because of your avatar it wouldn’t be referencing the SDK ...

I’ve been struggling with this error that I have no clue how to fix that will not let me upload ot test my Vrchat avatar. It says “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” and the error message mentions a script under the VRChat SDK - Avatars package called “VRC Sdk Control Panel Avatar Builder”, so I’m guessing this is probably the culprit in some way but i’m not entirely sure and I wouldn’t know how to fix it either way since this is the first avatar I’m trying to upload. This error wasn’t a issue a few days ago but since then i’ve added poiyomi shader and used it for some emissions and I also added some props. If anyone has any clue on what could be wrong I would greatly appreciate some help! (also might be worth mentioning that the validations menu is completely blank as shown in picture)

Saw your last post. If I’m in this kind situation, I start by deleting objects one by one and upload it as offline testing. If the avatar gets uploaded successfully, then one of those items that got deleted may have caused the error.

Pay more attention to the warnings. Like the console window show 7 warnings, the last one is a bit meh, but you should look at the other warnings. Any message you can't clear is worth more inspection compared to the ones you can't clear awy.

July 31, 2024 - Yea, without it your animations wouldnt work or your model wouldnt appear, something important it needs to reference to is missing either the root animations arent attached to the correct model or the model is missing an important bone or script that allows it to animate correctly (the error belongs to the animator and ill get this a lot for clothes toggles as unity doesnt support those as animations after the update so people posting animations like that using the newest unity wont be able to reference the clothing as an object like the want to which can create this error too. ... I get this error when im not actively on the object ready for upload, this occurrs for me when i select the VRM model instead of the duplicated one for vrchat.

I am using the latest SDK, I do not have the MMD4 plugin or whatever, I have deleted it and reinstalled it, I am on the correct version of Unity(2017.4.15), and I dont know what to do, because as soon as I import the VRCSDK, I get the "object reference is not set to an instance of an object" error, nonstop. Have you tried importing the sdk into an empty project? See if it works in general or if something else might be wrong?

Can you open the console and copy the entire error here? Usually there are two parts, the object reference line and then a bunch of info about what causes it.

I’m not very experienced with unity so this error has got me stumped and google and youtube have not helped me so far. I have an “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” error repeating and nothing is appearing in the Validations menu to auto fix and I have no clue what could be causing this, anyone might know how to solve this? The error was not appearing yesterday and the only changes I have made is adding a prop, poiyomi shader, some texture changes, and using poiyomi to add emissions to some textures.

Honestly having the same issue and the crazy thing is, I uploaded two avatars and needed to update and make changes after the fact but when loading things up again I started having this issue again. I have reinstalled VCC, Unity, re-loaded my SDK3, rebooted my PC, and have had to recreate my projects over and over all day since migrating assets over is a no no… I’m at my wits end honestly

Oh gosh that’s a lot, first off unpack your avatar prefab completely. You can do that by right clicking your avi in the hierarchy and unpack. By the looks of it the errors are screaming about your animations? It’s really hard to tell from just one frame to what’s going on.
