r/explainlikeimfive on Reddit: ELI5: What is HAARP and what does it do?

A part of the upper atmosphere is called the ionosphere. This is where the charged particles from the sun hits the molecules in our atmosphere to create ions, and the density of the atmosphere is so low that these ions take a very long time to find other ions to react with. The ionosphere is highly volatile and can change a lot both in altitude and density based on solar intensity, the weather, the magnetic field, and a number of things we yet do not understand.

One of the most commonly seen effects of the ionosphere is that it can reflect and refract radio waves. Normally radio waves only goes in a straight line so the transmitter and receiver needs line of sight to each other. This is inconvenient on a spherical planet. But at some frequencies the radio waves gets reflected off the ionosphere back to the surface, which again reflect it back up again. This allows radio waves to go all the way around the planet.

But this is highly unpredictable as the ionosphere changes all the time. So which frequencies gets reflected and how strong is hard to predict. HAARP and a lot of other similar instruments study the ionosphere by sending strong radio waves straight up and see how they come back. This allows them to measure how strong the different layers are and at which frequencies they reflect best at.

When we can measure the ionosphere in details we can start looking for patterns in its behaviour which allows us to better predict it. This can allow us to better pick modes of communication over long distances. And it helps us analyse the signals from over the horizon radar systems which use the ionosphere to detect aircraft a long distance away.

High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program - Wikipedia
June 30, 2024 - The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program began in 1990. Ted Stevens, Republican U.S. senator from Alaska, helped win approval for the facility, and construction began in 1993. In early May 2013, HAARP was temporarily shut down, awaiting a change between contractors to operate the facility.

Situated about halfway between Tonga and Australia, the cigar-shaped island is too close to the equator for Northern or Southern Lights. Yet on May 10, 2024, this happened: "I have rarely been so ...

r/conspiracy on Reddit: Haarp proof testing this weekend

Yeah, I posted about this. It got downvoted. Haarp did aurora experiments May 8th-10th.

I really am interested in the conversation. There's likely a reasonable explanation. But it's still a pretty big coincidence.

Ready for a pretty big shocker?

Haarp did the same test on November 4th and 5th, 2023. They even said it will create an artificial aurora in the sky over Alaska.

Take a guess on what happened on the night of November 5th. You guessed it. Unprecedented aurora borealis that spread as far south as Turkey.

I find it at the very least interesting.

Here's details on what haarp was doing yesterday and the day before.

Last strange thing I'll point out is that the haarp official website has been down all day. You can't access it.
