r/AskArchaeology on Reddit: someone mentioned forensic archaeologists ...

In my experience it is "Forensic anthropologists" and not "Forensic archaeologists" that are hired to work on those types of projects.

The times I have been hired to work on a forensic case, it was because a Forensic anthropologist hired me and I was typically the only archaeologist on the project. All the others focused in some type of biological anthropology. I was honestly only hired because I knew the Forensic anthropologist and they knew I was interested in helping.

Each time, it was a contract position where the local law enforcement hired a university professor. There are very few places that have full time forensic anthropologists and there may be 1 per state. It is much cheaper to law enforcement to just do contract hires on the rare occasion that they are needed.
