The LTS one exists as a newer kernel could have issues for some people. It is the more vetted and "stable" version. Generally, the "normal" one is the latest and greatest so if that proves stable, stick with it. You generally don't want to remove the LTS one as having a fallback could prove valuable. If say the next latest 6.19 proves a problem for you and you wiped the LTS, now you got to chroot and manually re-add it. So long as your /boot is the 4gb flavor and you have BTRFS Assistant set to not keep an obscene amount of snapshots, the space of the 2nd kernel is minimal at best (like 100mb). Whichever bootloader you use should remember your last selection so it will default to it after whatever timeout it has. You could probably use the kernel manager to delete the LTS one but this is not advised due to maybe needing the fallback as mentioned and space spacing is negligible. Hi all, I selected catchyos-bore as my go to but also noticed there’s normal cachyos and cachyos-lts, I’d prefer to keep only one, would it be safe to remove the normal one and lts or are they dependencies for bore?

April 20, 2026 - Ansonsten allgemeine Anmerkungen, MGLRU ist ja schon seit Jahren im Kernel und keine Rückportierung von 7.1, da gab es nur ein paar Patches. Also wer zu Hause fiese Datenbankserver mit viel Speicherplatz betreibt, der wird davon profitieren. Besonders wenn man noch HDDs nutzt. Also das typische Einsatzszenario einer Gaming Distribution. Ist zwar schön zu sehen, dass CachyOS die so schnelle Releases macht aber wie man bei 6.19 auch gesehen hat.

Hi,
I've been reading upon the different kernels CachyOS offers, but I'm a bit confused. For example, what is the difference between the default kernel and the linux-cachyos-bore variant? They both use the bore scheduler right?
I have two machines I use daily:

A laptop with a Zen3+ processor (AMD 6860Z + 680M integrated graphics) which I use for work mainly (DevOps)
-
A desktop with a Ryzen 5900X & 6800XT which I both use for work and gaming.
Because of the current issue with PSR on AMD integrated graphics I currently use the lts kernel on the laptop.
What would normally be a suitable kernel for these use cases?

Generally the default linux-cachyos one is the preferred.

Generally, we have a bunch of kernels with different schedulers and presets. The schedulers got reduced over the recent years, since a bunch of schedulers like Cacule/TT and Echo are not maintained anymore. The "server" kernel as it says is intended for servers and generally has a higher throughput, while not being that much interactive as the desktop kernek. The "hardened" kernel, includes the linux-hardened patches from Anthraxx, which is thought for security. We really suggest to use the default "linux-cachyos" kernel, since this is our suggestion and which we care most.

Ich denke, ihr wisst alle, dass CachyOS mit zwei Kerneln kommt, normal und LTS für Backups. Aber ich möchte den normalen entfernen und stattdessen LTS verwenden, weil ich dachte, er wäre stabiler, und ich update nur einmal in ein oder zwei Wochen. Nimm einfach die neueste, und behalte die LTS als Backup, falls du mit der neuesten wegen eines Updates nicht booten kannst. Wenn du dich für limine+btrfs entschieden hast, solltest du standardmäßig Snapper haben, was es wirklich einfach macht, ein vermasseltes Update rückgängig zu machen. Der einzige Vorteil, den ich sehe, den du von der Verwendung von LTS hast, ist freier Festplattenspeicher, aber selbst dann ist das nicht viel. Und du wirst Leistungsgewinne von den neuesten Kernels verpassen.

Nee, nimm die normale. Es gibt keinen Grund, jemals die LTS zu benutzen, außer aus irgendeinem Grund gibt es ein Problem mit der normalen.
