Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb) Lindl.): Evaluation of nutritional value, polyphenol composition, antidiabetic effect, and toxicity of leaf aqueous extract - ScienceDirect
June 17, 2022 - Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl.) is an evergreen tree native to China, which is introduced in many Mediterranean countries. As in many ancient medical systems, loquat leaves have been used in Moroccan traditional medicine to treat diabetes and its complications. This study aims to determine the nutritional and polyphenol composition and to evaluate the in vivo antidiabetic, and antihyperlipidemic properties and oral toxicity of a leaf aqueous extract (LLE) derived from loquat grown in Morocco.

Long term administration of loquat leaves and their major component, ursolic acid, attenuated endogenous amyloid-β burden and memory impairment | Scientific Reports
October 5, 2023 - Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) leaves contain many bioactive components such as ursolic acid (UA) and amygdalin. We investigated the effects of loquat leaf powder and methanol extract in human neuroglioma H4 cells stably expressing the Swedish-type APP695 (APPNL-H4 cells) and C57BL/6 J mice.

Efficacy and local irritation evaluation of Eriobotrya japonica leaf ethanol extract - PMC
We investigated whether EJEE can regulate melanin production because melanin plays an essential role against UV-induced ROS production, EJEE has demonstrated potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities [38, 39]. Recent studies have shown that hyperpigmentation is caused by various inflammatory skin disorders, such as eczema, and dermatitis [8, 9, 40, 41]. In this study, melanin content was significantly inhibited by EJEE at concentrations of 0.05 and 0.1%. Recently, Tan et al. [42] reported that the methanolic extract of Eriobotrya japonica leaf exhibits a significant dose-dependent inhibition of melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells.
