Windows 11 Forced Paused Updates

Is there a way to truly pause updates?
Yes, if you are on Professional or greater. Run gpedit.msc, this will launch the group policy editor. Browse to Computer configuration -> Administrative Templates -> All Settings, then sort the name alphabetically, look for and double click on Configure Automatic Updates. In the window that opens, select Enabled, then in the dropdown below select option 2 - Notify for download and auto install. This will still allow everything related to Windows Update to work normally, it will still periodically check for updates but it won't download them until you allow them. You will get a notification that you have updates available, and then you can run it when it works best for you. More on reddit.com

Microsoft confirms you can now pause Windows 11 updates for as long as you want, no more "forced" reboots
On one hand the updates have been Microslop lately. On the other hand, security updates are important. I wish users would understand the security side, but with the low quality updates lately I understand the hesitation to update. More on reddit.com

r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: Is there a way to truly pause updates?
March 22, 2024 -

I live in a rural area with limited internet. I also work from home. (Living rural was not always the case)

I have an issue every few months where my windows updates just…suck down my data. Making it impossible to efficiently work or basically do anything else online.

I can always tell when it’s updating as I will be ‘roboting’ on calls and people just have a difficult time hearing me through my call system at work. Every single time I can see System in the task manager is using my network.

I have already went through my system settings and delay updates but it’s still doing something in the background.

Does anyone have a suggestion to fix my issue here? I totally understand the importance of the updates and I have the ability to take my PC places to actually update it but I can’t be having it do this randomly when I don’t have the ability to take it places or I’m busy with other things online.
